Question What kind of internals are in our L's?

I know the crank is forged, but what about the pistons? How much HP should the stock shortblock be able to handle?

Thanks

I believe the pistons are forged as well but I have seen that they believe the short block cannot take more than 500 hp. I think that it can take more but people will disagree.

While we are on this subject...
Isn't the bottom end-rods,crank and bearings the same as a regular 5.4

What about valves and cams?

Also will the blower off of a lightning bolt to a 4v navigator 5.4?

And what about the ignition?

Is the 'coil-on-plug' deal specific to the lightning, or do the F150's have it too?

Ford-Tough1,
The shortblocks are the same except for the pistons. The standard 5.4 pistons are a Hypereutechic cast piston. The lightning has a special forged dish piston.

The rods are a P.M.(powder metal) rod. I'm not sure if the have a cracked cap or not. The rods are the weak link in the stock short block.

The heads and cams are the same as the 99 mustang gt (p1)

DreaminaboutL,

The ingnition system "coil on plug" is the same on all 5.4's the only difference is the pcm. There are no aftermarket ingnition (msd) that will work with our trucks. MSD told me that they were working on one. It might be out by next spring!

Cool

Someone posted a while back that the boys(and ladies) at SVT rated the lower end for 500-525HP.
