Supercharger Snout problem ?

I bought a 2.80 pulley to put on the L but it doesnt fit. once its pressed on it wont spin. its locked against the snout. so i took it back off and looked that the snout. it is alot thicker on the left side than it is on the right. the pulley clears the right side with no problem but of course get locked down on the left.( right and left sides are looking at the charger.) ever heard of this before ?

Did you maybe put the pulley on backwards with the offset on the wrong side allowing contact with the case? Just a thought

I was thinking the same thing. It is a pretty common mistake. Another one is pressing it on too much. it should have the shaft end pretty even with the pulley boss.

I am sure it wasnt on backwards, it has a flat face on it so you can really only put i on one way. the first time i put it on it did press it too far but i pulled it back out.

I remember reading about others that experienced this issue here a few years
back. You have to be careful whos ( Manufacturer) upper pulley you buy as some will NOT clear the snout as you mentioned...Any legitimate Vendor would make sure you obtained the proper one for your application..

You probably need to grind down the fins on the snout as I did on my 2.8
You can Use a dremel tool to do this.

I had a similar problem which ended up being the wrong pulley. I was sent the pulley for a Cobra by accident.

Doesnt make sence because people have been using 2.8's for many years with no problem, I did on two diff Eatons. AMOF I had a 2.7 on my last Eaton and that went on with room to spare (and NO grinding) ???

I've heard of a few having to grind a little for 2.7's, (not the JLP 2.7's though)
but never for 2.8's. Does it look like the snout has more meat on one side ? Or could it be a really bad Pulley or the wrong one as ProMod said ?

I have decided to dremel down the left side just a bit. like i said before the pulley clears the snout except for the left side. i looked at the pulley last night again and it clears all of the snout expect for maybe a spot thats about 1/4 inch long. so if i dremel that spot down it should spin freely.

All the Eaton M112 have the same snout (light &Cobra) I currently have a 2.7 that went on fine without grinding but I had purchased a 2.7 and 2.8 from JLP 1.5 years ago that had issues. The 2.7 was loose (didn't have the right hole diameter and the 2.8 didn't fit on the snout. It took me 3 months to get a refund and he even tried to say it wasn't his pulleys although they had his stamping in the center. After about 20 calls, I got the refund. I wouldn't buy a tootpick from him.

In any case, it is better not to use an aluminium pulley on a steel shaft. Its cheaper to make a pulley that way. Compare to the stock pulley or ask any machinist. I know that some have not had issues but I'm just saying it is better. Both metals expand at a different rate and the aluminium could come loose and damage the snout.
