My friend who has a 2000 lightning wants to put on dual flowmasters.Im not really up to speed on series anymore.Could you tell me.............What series are available and for moderate to kinda loud exhaust

Are they both the same? Center or offset inlet outlet? 2.5??

How much in general do the series make it louder?

Lightningquick,

I am running 2 40 series flows - offset. I am using all 3" mandrel tubing, I would consider it moderate to kinda loud.

I am using 3" cuz I plan to run nitrous, however I think there is gain even without the nitrous. How much more HP does your friend plan to add with other mods, I imagine this would determine whether to go 2.5" or 3". If he's planning on 450+ HP I would go with 3". And definitely an x-pipe (I think 5" x-pipe with 3" tubing or 3.5" x-pipe with 2.5" tubing).

You can see pics at: http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4293871909

Oh and none of this has really been tested at the track yet it just feels faster and sounds great.

Hope this helps.

Mike

BTW I think BBQMAN was being sincerely helpful no need to give him a hard time.

Lightningquick,

I went to the track all stock, and I ran consistant 14.0s w/ a best of 13.89and then I took the muffler off, and it sounds way mean, so I went back to the track, I ran consistent 13.8s with a best of 13.66 with more weight.
Later on tonight I'll get a wave of the loud exhaust and somehow try to get it on the Net. You are gonna love it!

Cool

Here's the link with the part #'s and such, however, given the choice of changing the setup I would have went with 3" in/3"out Flows.

I guess the only thing I have left to ask is what the difference in muffler is.
He doesnt want it real loud and chance to lose power so he is going with the 50 series. My question is,The muffler shop said 2 chamber??,Im guessing that 50 series is 3 chamber???Please let me know which muffler to get.He doesnt want it too loud.He definatly wants 50 series the quieter one. Thanks alot 4dthunder!!!I would think that 2chamber is the 40 series which is louder ??? I dunno ...HELP

So Are the 40 series the ones that people are losing power?

With the 50 series(3 chamber) are they much louder than stock? If he is going to change he wants the flowmaster sound but does not want to lose power?? HELP<

The only one I've heard complaints about(that I recall anyway) is when they put a single muffler with dual in/dual out(like the stock) and a couple said it made a loud blowing noise and after they changed it a couple weeks later the internals appeared toasted. Gonna guess but I think if you look at HP rating on them, those wouldn't meet our specs. Stick w/2 of them and you should be okay, still recommend 3"in/3"out though.

I just had a Flowmaster 524704 70 series muffler installed on my L2. It has 2 inlets and 2 outlets. I seems to have added power but it
does make a hissing sound. It does have a nice sound though but later on the hissing sound has to go. The bad thing is that this is the muff that flowmaster recomended.

I've used Flowmasters on various applications and in one case, I had a hissing sound. I took it back to the installer and he replaced it with another one exactly the same. It made a world of difference. It finally had the "Flowmaster" sound. He figured that a baffle had come loose. Might try taking it back.

Cool

Right, the 2 chambers are the 40 series and the 50's are a quieter version. If you peruse their website they tell which ones are more aggressive sounding or more mellow. It's kind of strange to navigate it but if you go here: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/fmtest/DOCS/SET.html

and on the left side of the page you see 7 yellow, red, and blue bars. Click on the third one down from the top and a row of numbers appear near the top, click on those to check out their various models and specs. This should help you with most all questions.

It is well known to me and others that you must use two mufflers on the lightning specific.

So far this is where i am on this whole ordeal.

He needs 1 flowmaster 2.5 offset inlet/center outlet(pass-side) + 1 flowmaster 2.5 center in/center out.

The only questions that have gone unanswered is what do the series mean? Are series set up together like this?

50 series 3 chamber
40 series 2 chamber????????

He does not want the one that people felt loss of torque on the other hand he wants it to sound like a flowmaster

I am caught in the middle here.
My guess is 50 series 2 chamber flowmaster. What I dont understand is if it can be a 50 series 2 chamber or if it is set up to be like 40 series/2 chamber and 50 series/3 chamber. Its like you ither get the sound and lose torque or you lose sound?????Im about ready to tell him to stick his muffler where the sun dont shine J/K Thanks 4dthunder,Youve been a great help so far!!!

Ends up i called Flowmaster and told them of the hiss. They were all over themselves to help me out. They are sending me a pair of new muffs for my truck at now expense to me
and were very sorry they recommended the wrong product! Great company! They are sending me either 50 or 40 series muffs...my
choice.
