Post Bad ET Blues Too!

I had my Lightning at the strip this weekend too for the first time. I have the superchip trac program and MT ET street tires. I ran a 13.49 at 106.7 on my g tech a couple of days before so I was hoping for a 13.5 at the track. My best time was a 13.96 at 96.7 with a consistent sixty foot of 2.01. Either the conditions were a lot worse or the g tech is way off. The temp was 85 degrees and very humid the day at the track. I lost in the second round when the truck got a tenth slower and my reaction time was .700 . It wasnt as much fun as I anticipated. Those guys running at the track were good! Excellent reaction times and consistent times also. People were surprised at a pickup being as fast as mine was though. I cant see how anyone can run in the 12's with a chip and filter. Every time I have tried a filter kit my truck got at least 2 tenths slower. Anyone have any thoughts or comments on this?

BadPit-

I have a suggestion as to how the filter might actually slow you down. The additional horsepower may be allowing you to spin the tires too much. I know, I'm blaming it on you, but it's not meant to be an insult. My case in point:

Last weekennd I went racing also. Several weeks ago several L owners noticed a slight pinging when I ran with my chip in performance mode. So last week I added 10 points of octane booster. This causes the ignition flame to burn slower, and causes the combustion in the chamber to be at its strongest when the crank is in a better position for greater leverage. This all results in a horsepower increase. I've driven the truck daily for 8 months now... and I've had to learn to control the wheel spin. Well, with the additional hp from the octane booster, I just couldn't get the hang of it. I need to relearn the limits of the truck. I finally switched my performance chip to the stock mode, and I started running better... because I wasn't spinning the tires! Sometimes you can't even tell by sound that they are spinning. I had one L owner, 99SVT, tell me that I was getting 2nd and 3rd gear chirps as I went down the track. I never even noticed until I made a pass with the windows down.

Just a suggestion....

I am assuming you are stock since you didn't post in your signiture, but I would be courious to know your launch RPM. I doubt that tire spin is a problem with the ETs. Try power braking and launching at 1500 RPM and see what that does to your time. Also as I have stated a large temp drop like we achieve (15-20 degrees) in racing at night between 6:30 PM and 11:30 is good for a .15 drop in ET.
As to your statement that a filter kit raises your ET I think we need more info. I know of noone who has not run better when they put a filter kit on.

LightningDammit, I have a superchip and Mike Troyer told me not to use an ocatane booster so I havent tried it. It didnt seem to give me anymore wheelspin with the filter kit and I know I am the only owner to lose power by installing it. I have had that stupid filter on so many times and it always seems to make the thing slower. Noelvm I launched at about 1200 rpm but am sure I didnt get any wheel spin with the MT tires. I guess I will try the filter one more time and the higher launch rpm too. Thanks for the advice.

Since we now know you have a chip I would suspect that. There is probably something wrong with the programming. Noone I know of has gone slower when they added more air.
