Question BFG Drag Radials vs M.T. ET Street

BFG Drag Radials 255/50/R16 vs M.T ET Streets 26x11.5-16. Some of you have had both. I would be interested in your opinions. How do they compare in performance?

I have had both. The BFG's aren't worth the gas to take them to the dump. The difference is not close it's dramatic, night & day, hot & cold, near & far, trust me, the vote on this will be MT ET STREETS 100%, BFG 0.

Definately not a good choice for auto cross or high-speed exits off the freeway.

I have BF G's and i've had good luck myself. I also feel mush safer w/ the BF's if I wanted to drive my truck to the strip or for a little street racing that the extremely soft side walls of the MT's.

What is it about the term dragradial/tire that you don't understand. We're talking drag racing tires here not motocross, not mud, not snow, not rain, not street, but drag racing.

noelvm -

I thought it was because every time I take the ETs out on the street, someone has to DRAG me out of the ditch.

The TAs work really well on a lot of vehicles, I just don't think the Lightning is not one of them. You are right though; a lot safer on the street.

OK, I'll define further. When I am talking drag racing, I'm talking at the track not on the street. I wouldn't drive them on the street, in fact I'm not even sure they are safe on a 1/4 mile from what I've heard. On my 1/8 strip they don't go over 80 and they are ok for that. WYLDMAN told me that his fishtaled all over the track at 100 mph. That doesn't inspire much confidence. So undder the following peramerters: "On a 1/8 mile drag strip with dry pavement, the MT ET Streets are unbeatable" OK

We are working on getting Steve to add a Sarcasm Smilie - Till then keep in mind that some content on this board is meant tongue in cheek. Maybe ;-P would be appropriate, even though the tongue is clearly not in the cheek.

Comparing ET Streets and Drag Radials isn't comparing "apples to apples." They are very different.

A better comparison would be ET Streets to ET Drags. All ET Streets are is a DOT approved slick with a few lines in them. They have a very soft sidewall and aren't the best thing to have while driving 'normally' on the street.
Drag Radials are a very good street tire, but a softer compound than the typical radial tire, resulting in a better grip. Drag radials have a much longer life than the ET streets on the street for obvious reasons, but not as much as a normal radial tire.

Personally, I prefer the ET Streets on my mustang at the track than a drag radial simply because there's not a chance in hell a drag radial is going to stick with the horsepower I'm trying to plant. Over the ET Street tires, I prefer a slick tire, again for obvious reasons.

Some people don't like the feeling the softer sidewall creates as opposed to the stiffer one offered by the drag radial. (feeling of moving around/fishtailing) I've often seen too low of an air pressure ran in the soft sidewall tire and that does cause the feeling to be worse, though it's always going to be there to some degree.

From what I know about these trucks, the drag radial tire should be sufficient on a more stock application, but I can definitely see where the ET Street tire is fast becoming necessary.

My 60' times with M/T ET Drag tires 1.52 (11.33@119) and my best with the ET Street was 1.56. There's not much difference there, ya see.

Sorry about the long post.
