Front End Clunk Report
Just a note to let those of you with this problem know how my fix is going.
I took my 00L into Tallahassee Ford this a.m. for the front end clunk repair. With just a few miles over 6000, I could tell the tire was beginning to wear excesively on the inside. I made a list of all the band-aid type fixes, the re-torquing, the tac-welding, the star washer and etc. Told them not to tell me nothing was wrong because just like the photos that some of you have posted, a person with one eye and half sense could see what was happening. I told them about the cam bolt kits that were apparently the best fix, I gave them the name of Jake Doss at the SVT hotline and etc. Told them to do an allignment when they were through and since my work is next door, I told them I would pick it up at 5.
Things have pretty much gone downhill from there. I knew I was in trouble when they called and asked ME for the SVT number. Next call was to tell me that this Doss person had not told anyone about any fix. They did tell me that he told them that next month there would be a TSB sent out to SVT dealers about this problem. I believe the lady said the fix would be a washer. She said they would probably wait until then to fix it.
To which I said, that if you wait that long, you WOULD BE replacing my tire. To which she said I don't know about that. I have been scared that this is how it would be here at this dealership. I had heard the clunk on occasion but had been afraid to look under there for fear of finding what you guys have been describing and having to get it fixed here. I have gotten some great deals on all the trucks that I have bought, but the service dept. has a bad rep.
So who knows what the next call will be, probably for me to go over and show them the bold. I guess I should have told them to look for the white one.

I don't understand why they won't fix the problem. Like with any other large company I guess that we will have to do is get into there pockets before it becomes an issue. Right now it's just a thorn in there side and we need to make it a large flag pole to get there attention. Next Question how.

Mine went in today for the fix. The dealer is replacing the control arms and installing the cam bolt kit. I had no problem. The dealer had to wait an extended period of time for the parts, but should be in as I speak. I have asked for the old parts to campare. I will post the results when I get my truck back.
Talked to my dealer about the famous clunk,he said Ford does not have a fix for it yet.He said the star washer and tack weld bandaid was not a Ford fix, just dealer bandaids.Ford did not pay the dealers for this work.Maybe a window of 4 weeks, just a guess, before Ford gets a better idea! What do you guys think?

What dealer did you take your L to? Took mine to mullinax in apopka and they said they would not fix my clunk at all!
you would think ford could at least tell dealers to help the customer in some damn way.

Hey PD LIGHTNING
Which dealer is doing this for you? Is it Magic?
I've started to get popping noises during sharp turns and I fear it is the clunk. If your service dept. is doing this for you, I would love to have them do it for me. I don't know about any of the Ford Dealers near me (San Fernando Valley) so would really like to find a good one. As soon as mine gets back from the body shop (got rear ended Friday) I'd like to get it to a good service dept and have the clunk fixed. One that has done it before would be ideal.
Thanks

blubye-u....It was Mullinax,They said they would line it back up to keep tire wear down, but as soon as a Ford fix is released, they will fix it then. They said the other so called repairs do not work.I think for the most part, that is what the guys are saying here.

I am also getting ready to fix the clunk. Maybe waiting is the answer for now, as long as I don't put too many hard left turns on it. Let me know if you hear from a dealer with a different story. I just love the looks I get backing out of a spot in a covered cement parking garage, sounds like the truck is breaking in half as the snap echoes off the walls...

Putting grease on the steering stops will quiet down the noise until you get the moving bolt fix.

I have had the CLUNK for a while but I am going to wait to hear what Ford has planned for the fix next month before taking the L to a dealership.
