Post Buick Regal GS?

I got in a conversation the other day with an old fart who claimed that his Buick Regal GS was faster than his Dodge Stealth turbo, and would have no trouble dusting my L. I know he has been smoking something, but I tried to research the subject and I couldn't find any hard performance date for the Regal. Anyone know what one of those puppies will do in the 1/4?

The new supercharged Regals should, with pulley mod and filter do around a mid 14 with a person that knows how to drive it.

Unless his Regal is completely stock, don't worry about factory performance numbers. There are lot of 13 sec or quicker Regal running turbo's. Look at what the Grand Nat's can run using little 6 cyclinder engines. Like 8 sec quarters.

There is no chance a stock or even slightly modded Buick GS or Pontiac GTP (same powertrain/drivetrain) will hang with an L. I know this personally, having driven a GTP and also actually got into an "encounter" with one on a local TX highway. Starting in THIRD gear, for crying out loud, (we were doing 85 to begin with) I crushed one. Not even close. Waste of my gas. From a 40 punch in 2nd, or even better a punch in 1st gear it would be absolutely no contest. High 14s maybe is what they run.

Sure there are some modded ones. I've seen a GTX (Pontiac performance pkg...extra boost, etc) run low-14s...on the same night bone stock 500 mile L's were running 13.7-13.8s at the local track.

As far as GNs and GNXs running 8s...that's about equivalent to a 5.0 Mustang running 7s. Sure they can be made to be REALLY fast...but you won't find those roaming the highways too much...not with 4.56 gears, 2-speed Powerglides and 5000rpm stall converters.

Finally, a post I can provide some good info on...

My daily driver (and my fiance's car) is a Buick regal GS. It is quick (3.8L with an Eaton) and does 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds and the quarter in about the 14.8-14.9 range. It is a nice car and of course can be modded, but If I put all the stuff I have put on my L onto the GS, it would still be a full second slower in the quarter than the L.
Great car, but definetly not as fast as our L's.

Alex
