Post Can We Please Grow Up?

This may not be a popular post or even acceptable to some, but please hear me out.

I joined this board, even more specifically this thread, 14 months ago because I had purchased a Ford Lightning 99 Model and wanted help to improve it's performance and to learn as much as I could about the truck.

As the vehicle was pretty much totally new, it took a really long time before we were able to convince a lot of the aftermarket suppliers to develop products for what we must admit is a pretty limited production vehicle.

But, over time, they did and we benefited (SP)from our enthusiasm and their desire to make a buck. In this context, I sell things for a living so I know how that works.

For whatever reason, in the last 6 months or so, a great deal of what I read is pretty much negative. Chip wars, Exhaust wars, Intake system wars, you name it.

I own a Lightning, I am proud of my Moby, but I just don't post much anymore. I don't have the time to listen/read/whatever posts by folks who seem to have a totally personal agenda which is mostly negative.

Aside from the fact that I own a Ford product, this is the site that I visit most. I stopped visiting Chevvie sites, Dodge sites and the like because of what I saw was a really grossing out type of behaviour.

Our board rose above that, but now we seem to be slipping.

As an owner of many aftermarket parts,I can say that pretty much all of them deliver what they promise. So they have some problems? Of course. As Sal said, press the envelope and you may have some difficulties.
Goes with the territory.

Bottom line for me my many friends is let's make this a happy site and a happy board. If you have problems with a vendor, take it up on their website as Steve has suggested.

Nuff Said?

From what I can tell, there's a very small number of people spewing negativity on this board. The vast majority of us are up beat and positive. Do like I do, don't read negative posts Just my .02.

This board predominantly migrates 'to the good' -- and does so without being moderated (directed). Everyone on here has some sort of personal agenda -- and fortunately learned to play well when young.

I remember reading here way back when Steve was still excited about his own truck -- and withouth his drive to make something out of this board, it (the board) would not have the visibility it enjoys -- which is a primary reason for drawing readers/contributors -- which has snowballed and reached the critical mass needed to sustain interest and draw contributors.

Sitting through the 'hit the monkey' and other distractions is a small price to pay for having a well-organized place where we can vent/teach/console/laugh -- and I hope that Steve is able to find the winning combination which will move this board to the next level (one where topics are moderated, experts are solicited, and solutions are cataloged) -- for which financial gain for Steve is warranted.

Any 'shoot-outs' between vendors or products become 'shout-outs' unless the shooters play by established guidelines -- and the current method of answering questions/charges from members is the logical (and current) method of operation.

Fortunately, there are many well-intentioned posts/threads which often draw meaningful comments/suggestions -- and those threads have, by their sheer volume, become subliminal guidelines for newbies and oldies alike.

This board provides more value (and LOL entertainment) to me than any other hobby-related venue that I frequent.

Thank you all.

BILL,
I have myself considered stop posting on this board because of the exact stuff you have stated. In the few months I've been a member here, have seen negative attitudes and somtimes hurtful comments to others. Life is really way TOO short and this has been a really outstanding group of people.....so I hope we dont lose others that have been a real part here. EVERYONE HERE NEEDS EVERYONE FOR THE WHOLE TO BE SOLID AND HEALTHY.
I also agree with Y2K 7700 4x4; oh well, this is just my opinion but wish everyone here the very best.

You guys (and girls) are so lucky- you should see the kind of hostility on the CLK (mercedes) boards- it's just awful. Now I want a Lightning, because your board is so great!

Cool

Well.......

Like life, you need to weed out the nonsense and find the pony in the pile of fecal matter.

We all know who speaks the truth and who gives reliable information.

Simply read and respond to them and ignore the B's and M's of the world.

Almost nothing can destroy the joy we take in our trucks (well, maybe clunks and intercooler leaks), so enjoy the good information on the board, block out the bad and welcome new users and encourage them to stay away from the dark side!

Cheers,

Your right Bill
Over the last few months things have gotten very negative. Although the majority of the guys/gals that post are very upbeat, a few are predominately negative and spiteful in their comments. It's funny how 2 or 3 people can change the complete character of the board. If it weren't for the fact that I love my L, I too would consider leaving the board.

It seems that in our posts about negativity, we too are becoming negative. Maybe we should all drop this thread and move on.

Yea, why not just give up. It's just to much trouble to make the choice not to read/respond to the few trouble makers. I have probably gotten all the useful info I need for now anyway. Whimper, whimper...

For me I'll try to ignore the Betty's and others like her. And would like to thank almost all who post here for showing such class.

These comments are not directed at anyone just a general statement regarding the tone of the recent posts.

I thank all of you for your thoughtful responses to my posting/question.

To clear up a few items, I did not intend to give the impression I would not use the board anymore, but was more interested in returning to the "Happy Days" of several months ago. We used to not only talk trucks, but also wives/girl friends, pets, general likes and dislikes and so on. And, Don't forget the "Member, Member threads". It really used to be a lot of fun and I logged on several times a day; it's nice to own your own business and get away with that!

Now, I look in once or twice a week and don't find the same family camaradarie and usually leave again without posting.

As well, I am not putting on the crybaby act.
Those of you that have been around for a while know me better than that. I am fairly serious, I'm one of the old farts (60), I own a business and have been around the block a few times. My point was meant to be, it was better once and it can be again and it is only we ourselves that can accomplish this if we wish to.

That brings me to Steve, and I fully understand he has the hardest job of all.
When to step in, when to stay out, when to discipline harshly, when to nudge. I have always supported Stever and have said so many times here. As stated above, it is we who should discipline ourselves. Steve really can't do that effectively by himself as he will always come off as the Terminator and that's no way to have fun either.

The commercialism issue is to me rather sad as I think it may have gotten blown out of proportion a while back; people then took some pretty hard positions and then when the flame wars started, defending one's position (and it wasn't only Sal) sort of slopped over into pushing the benefits of one's product or bashing another's.

I have sold things on this board and I have paid at least token monies to Steve for that privelege. When our new store (Please see the thread "Coming Soon to a Theatre Near You")opens up, I will be a steady advertiser.
Sorry for the other sellers, but I do think that is the way it has to be. And, I know Steve's rates for cottage industry vendors are very reasonable.

Was gonna write some lines, wrote a book!
Sorry for that, but I hope this adds to my original thoughts.

Bill

Bill, I am also happy to see you post again and agree with you 100% !!
I also joined this board not only to learn from others, but to contribute also. Some of these posts get so out of hand that I don't even like to be involved sometimes. LS1 is the place for crap like that, not here!

Hats off to Steve E. for the hard work, and the fine lines he has to walk here

Bill, extremely well stated. This whole "grow-up" situation reminds me of an article that ran in the AJC a few weeks back (the Atlanta Urinal Constipation for those non-Atlantans, our local newsrag) that documented interviews from people living in low-income housing. They complained about the deplorable conditions, the stench of urine, the crime, etc. Well guess what, it is the residents of your community causing those problems! Take the initiative to help eliminate them...

Steve
