How to dyno an L >>
Just in case the guy that dynos my L doesn't know what gear to be in for a pull, what is the best gear to be in for the best result. Should OVERDRIVE be turned off? The shop I'm going to is an all f-body and GN shop. It'll be interesting to see reactions to a chipped L on the barrels if they've yet to do one.
I ll see if I have a link at home.
I have to admit I am PERPLEXED why a site as popular as BON has NO search anywhere on its site. They have even removed the search feature from the Message Boards

WOW... reads like a bunch of lawyers wrote that procedure?! Plus the Cobra is stick.
All I would like to know is, what gear to be in... Second, Drive ?!
Anyway... to get to the procedure: www.blueovalnews.com
Upper left corner: click 'Vehicle news'
Scroll down, click 'See Mustang'
5th line down, "How to dyno..."

You want it in Drive with the OD turned off but then again you may want it in second if you want to play a numbers game. Go with DRIVE. I can direct you to a guy that is close by that has seen a few Lightnings on his dyno. Good price too.

The procedure was put out by SVT specifically for Cobra after the hp wars began. One important difference between the Cobras and L dynoing is auto vs manual tranny. With the Cobra one simply shifts through the gears (however many are suitable) until the vehicle is "rolling" in 4th gear, then go to WOT and start the dyno data gathering. Trying to do the equivalent in the truck is tricky because when you get to a high gear (not yet at WOT) and punch it a downshift is going to occur. So dynoing the truck probably is easier just starting from dead stop and punching it. As long as the dyno hw is gathering data the whole time you'll get the direct drive (3rd, no OD) readings as one of several on the same graph; you'll also get 1st and 2nd. I think it is actually a bit more interesting this way.

No, we're not brothers. But, as wierd as it sounds, his truck is Red as mine is; and, we both frequent the same dragstrip. I noticed that he has a custom plate that's the same as his handle here, "BA BOLT". My plate is "BADBOLT". We are, however, in the brotherhood of kickin' some musclecar *** with our L's.

It seems that putting it into 2nd gears, _locks_ it into 2nd gear. Meaning if I go full throttle at low speeds, the tranny wont downshift to 1st.
So why not do the test in 2nd gear... you will get numbers for the full rpm range.
BABolt: What did you mean "use second if you want to play a numbers game"? The Dynojet's take gearing and rear gears into 'account' dont they?
