Wheel DISASTER.....need help
I got a set of wheels of this boards classifieds. An almost brand new set of the optional 2000 Supercrew 17"ers. The guy that shipped them to me put a few pieces of tape to hold the cap to the wheel and put cardboard over the top of the whole wheel; well, you guessed it, the caps broke free of the little pieces of tape and were clunking around in the wheel scratching them to high heaven all the way to my house from Pheonix to Detroit. Three of the four wheels are like the pic. Does anyone know if this can be buffed, polished out. I'd be willing to have a professional shop do it; if I new where one was. Here's a pic. I'm dying here!!

BadBolt - How were these shipped? Were they insured? Maybe you can go back to the carrier for some help. If you can show that they were packed properly you might get some help from them.

That's too bad. Sorry to hear. If you sent a check and it has not been cashed, I would stop payment and send the wheels back. The guy screwed up.
This is if FedEx does not help.

Those scratches look pretty deep, doesn't look like buffing will them out... HOWEVER, simply go to a car detailing place, pay the guy a few bucks and ask him to put a buffer machine w/buffing compound on the wheels and see what it looks like.
Otherwise, polishing them may work... like polishing to a mirror like finish (not chrome, but a dull mirror finish). Note that this will cost you about $100 a wheel + tire mount/dismount.
Good luck...

Sorry to say but yhese wheels are cleared. There is probally no way to fix them. Its not like clear coat for paint. It cannot be polished out.you can only do that to wheels with no clear coat.FEX EX will do nothing believe me.Try the seller.

They are aluminum wheels with clear coat.
You can check into having the scratches sanded out and the wheels re-clear coated.
If you were anywhere close to me, I'd have one of our guys at the shop do it for you. Look into a wheel repair shop in your area. Ask around at some of the body shops who they send wheels to for reconditioning.

Thanks all for ideas on how to fix my wheels; the guy never responded to my email. Chalk one up to internet dangers. His name is Glenn Frey from Pheonix, AZ; I assume he frequents this site on the F-150 SuperCrew area or somewhere. I wish people would at least admit *******ing up when they are wrong. I know I got a really good deal; but, how good is a deal when everyghing gets messed up like that. I doubt I'll ever be able to sell these wheels.
Badbolt, you are local (metro Detroit), right?
I have heard there is a place in belville that will buff out scratchs and repaint / Clear Coat.
I believe they are part of the D&R salvage facility: (734) 699-6709 (had to look in the phone but, yahoo failed me...)

No go. D&R now LKQ doesn't do that kind of work. I remember buying an 88 Dodge Omni door and fender off them when some whench (no offense to good female drivers) side swiped me from stem to stern a few years back. I'll have to look in the pages to see if there's anything out there.
Thanks

Thanks Steven
I'll check it out.

I tell you, that wreck made me money. The insurance co totalled the car and I bought it back. I had to spend some to replace the parts; but, it was all cosmetic. I then sold it for about a grand to my sister. Some times you win even in the face of sheer stupidity, the "whench" that is.
