Angry I got a HUMing noise and I dont like it ->

Well I was getting into the truck this morning and started it up it started normal put it in D and i noticed a humming nosie never heard it before so i put it into P and it went away, Ok Put into R and its still there. So I rev the motor and it goes away. It only when in gear and at ideal. I heard it becuase the slider was opena nd the radio was off,Is this something to be worried about or just discard it and take it as a normal thing the truck dose?
Thanks

Hey Justen,
Not sure what it could be, I just went out to my L to hear a difference if any with it in gear. There is a different sound, but I heard no humming. If it's really loud, I would bring it to the dealer for a checkup. Good luck

Hi Justen:
I have had the same noise for several months!
It is probably the cold idle mixture silenoid.
It makes an awful noise when engine is cold and goes away when engine is warmed up.
The dealer told me it is normal, except mine is getting worse, they are replacing it next week, as soon as the new one gets here!

I have the noise as well. It feels like something is vibrating when you're in gear with your foot on the brake. I hear it hot or cold. The only thing different in the engine compartment is the PSP filter.

I have the PSP filter kit also!
Mine did it with the stock filter too, but it IS much louder with the PSP!
the mechanic said the silenoid was basicly a controled vacuum leak.
I'll keep you informed whether the replacement helps or not.

Just went out and tried my truck a 99 also. No difference if in park or in gear with foot on the brake. I have the airaid intake and hopefully a PSP chip when Lisa calls. :-)

I had this same problem with my 99 a few months ago and it was definately an exhaust/engine vibration. Basically what I did is loosened the engine mounts, tranny mount, and exhaust to manifold connections. Started the vehicle and went through the different gear selections reving the engine and finishing in neutral. I then went back and tightened all hardware I loosened. Retest, Vibration gone. Ford does have a special service message for this repair for most of thier vehicle line. If you feel it might be a vibration and you dont want to do it yourself just take it back to the dealer and they will do the same procedure.

Could this be the vibrating exhaust?
