Simple--- Always park it in the garage with a car cover. Never use the vehicle as a commuter. Never drive the truck in the rain or snow. Get a California Duster and use it religiously. Never go to a car wash that uses anything that actually touches the paint, except water. Always use the Duster before putting the car cover on. That's about it.

lightning00n93cobra,

I really like Eagle One WET, spray & wipe quick detailer. And a California Duster for the light stuff. Good luck with your black L.

Later,
Jake...

P.S. Mad gives good advice above, but unfortunately, my L is a daily driver.

I thought I would hear:

Paint it a different Color

I just got done washing my Black Car.
I haven't driven it in 2 months.
But I've washed it 3 times...

Yea, that was my answer. Paint it red, and remember, when it gets dirty enough, you can't see the swirls.

I'm going to be ordering some Zanio Bros. stuff. Supposedly it not only leaves no swirls but has some sort of electrostatic qualities that help repel dust. Don’t know if I believe the dust repelling qualities claim, but there are many members on this board that swear by it. Check out their web site:

Black is awesome when it’s clean but unfortunately it’s never clean. That’s why I opted for silver. Good luck with it

I use Zaino bros. polishes on my 2000L and 95r model. the statement about repeling dust is true. with other waxes like meguiars i would be dusting off every few days just sittin in my garage. since using zaino i haven't had to dust in 2 months. but the secret to using zaino polishes is in the prep of the paint. I use a wax and grease remover to take off old wax and then use clay magic to clean the paint. awesome results.

Cool

I've had my L for a little over 3 months and I must say that the paint looks better now than when I bought it. My routine is that I either wash or dist it every day. If it's relatively clean, I just use the California Duster. I never lay a cloth to it unless it's been dusted. Next I wipe is down with a damp towel, rinsing the towel after each panel. I then buff it down. It gets waxed at least once a week with Zaino. I would never used anything else. The truck NEVER goes in the rain and it doesn't snow in S. Texas. The shine is unbievable.

I have a Black 2000 L too, 1 month old. This has been my 5th Black vehicle. When you own a Black vehicle be prepared to be a slave to your L. It is the hardest color to take care of. I sponge and wipe down my L everytime I take it out when I return. I keep it covered in my garge when not in use. My L is not a daily driver. Never park under a tree or electrical lines always wipe off bird dropping right away and keep it polished or waxed for protection. Always admire other people who own Black Vehicles because, you know how much it takes to keep there ride clean and shiny!!!
Good Luck, DJY

Hey lightning00n93cobra; As an owner of a black L for one year. Two words, Liquid Glass. As the can says "Ultimate Auto Polish/Finish". You can't appreaciate it till you put it on the the polishing pad and feel the thickness of the polish. Like anything in life, you get what you pay for. No swirls and a mirror finish. Hope this helps.

Do as Kobiashi has mentioned.

I have a black L and I use Zaino. I am very happy with the product. I have owned black cars before and had to wax once a week and dust once to twice a day to keep clean.
Using Zaino seems to keep the dust off and gives it a wet look. I won't do a thing to the L for days and it will still look good.

I use Zaino wax every other month but I will use the Zaino Z-6 Gloss Enhancer every couple days for that wet look and it takes me approx. 10 minutes to go over the L with Z-6.

I haven't washed my L in weeks but it stays in almost show condition. I am guessing that the Enhancer is also a dust deterrent.

Oh well, my wife and I went for a loooong drive yesterday, I guess I better go out and Z-6 the L.
