Thumbs up

Neal,

I can't speak for a TransGo, but I can tell you my Level 10 ROCKS. Kit price $169.00, ($149.00 with NLOC discount), installation $200.00. After hearing from Spiro on his self install, I think I got taken to the cleaners, oh well. Contact at Level 10 is Pat Barrett 973-827-1000. You can also order the kit from Sal @ PSP.

Later,
Jake...

Well, of course I suggest the Level 10 because I sell them, BUT I sell them because they are my top choice.

If you want to go with a Transgo, or actually just portions of the kit, there is a very, very good transmission guy that gets the kit, installs what he needs and returns an awesome shifting trans that is rpm/throttle specific on the shifts. He charges 185 for everything. He has already done two L's that belong to friends and they recommended him. I have known this guy for twenty years and he is highly respected and a great mechanic for the past 40 years. This is in the south bay area of Los Angeles county. If anyone wants him to do their trans, let me know and I will post his address and name.

The Transgo I had installed is quite mellow and smooth at normal driving (it still shifts fast though), at WOT it shifts like a "*****," I had to get a chip to raise the rev limiter because the truck kept shutting down.

I was told by Transgo if you go to Summit you can buy the "performance only" kit which includes higher performance parts and easier instructions (incl. video).

I'm having Level 10 install their kit as well as the Protorque torque converter in a few weeks. I've heard many good things about Level 10. Does anyone know if I'll need a chip to keep my truck running properly after these items are installed? Sal? Anyone? Someone mentioned their truck kept shutting down. That doesn't sound very good.

SVTDAVE,

The shift kit may hold your gear beyond the rev limit (5450 rpm I think) under full throttle conditions, in which case the truck shuts down. A chip would do the same thing unless the rev limiter was moved up. I just had the Swanson chip installed, the rev limit is now at 6000 rpm and it has removed that problem.

Anyone who wants an install, I'll gladly do it in cincinnati for the $185, or you can remove your transmission and ship it to me and I'll get right back to ya.
Seriously, I would say about 2 hours labor tops to do this, I change an accumulator in about 5 minutes a pop on a repair, but I do have the box on a flip pallet out of the truck. I can rebuild a main control in about 15-20 minutes, so I wouldn't pay more than 2 hours labor to do this. (I wouldn't pay a dime m'self, I do essentially the same job about 100 times a week so if I wanted to add a shift kit I'd do it myself, and reccomend anyone with any skills to do there own too)
