Post 99L vs 2000 Please read?

I am new to this forum and was about to buy a black 99 lighting today for around $27,500 with 3000 miles on it. I test drove a white 99 before seeing the black and wasn't to impressed. I gassed it a few times from a dead stop and barely got a chirp. My friend has a 2000 lighting with a full bassani exhaust and a air intake. His lighting will lite em up all the way to second. I talked to him about the the truck and he said that the 2000's are better in performance. He said they have more horsepower even though they are both claimed at 360. Do you think he's right or is his truck just able to light em so much because of his mods? I really wanted the lighting but not if it is slower then a 2000. THanks for any help

Cool

The L in stock form hooks up very well if you do the same mods that your friend did you should get close to same out of the 1999. But if you ever watch the drag races you should know that if you break traction you lose. And at about $350.00 a tire, showing off gets a little pricey.

Sovich-

I bought ny 99 used also. 3K miles even! I now have 15K on it... and it WILL lite the tires up!!!! These trucks need a break in that's all there is to it. Also, have afew friends at the strip, 99's and 00's. After break in there appears to be NO performance difference.

Don't forget that heat and humidity will drain your horsepower, and increase traction, so summer is a bad time to assess performance!...

The 99s are fast,
The 00s are a blast,
But if you want to stay ahead,
Make sure that its Red.

Dont worry,They are basically the same. Some 99s were fster than others and same for 2000.You cannot tell by burning the tires.you need a dragstrip for that. The only differences are appearance and computer changes which are not performance orientated.Screw the exhaust ,GET ACHIP!!!!!!

If you go back and look at the dyno runs it seems like the 2000 L's make about 10 more hp than the 1999 L's (325 to 335), but it also seems like the 1999 makes about 25 more hp with a chip and the 2000 makes about 15 hp more. A wash.

I think this is a difference from the cux1 vrs cux2.

It seems in the end a chiped 1999 is just as strong as a chiped 2000.

I have also seen posts where people are running as high as 36psi in their tyres. They are also the same ones that can create great burnout upto 2nd gear. Between 28 and 30 psi to is a big difference on my L, at 30 psi it's a sliping/bronco buster, at 28 launch city.

I would also like to add that when my 1999 was delivered I thought WTF (slow), this thing sucks. Now at 8000 mile and chiped (350 rwhp) I think it gets stronger everyday, so at least vet owners tell me this.
