What am I doing wrong?
This is really embarrassing, but the other day I was at a red when this Mustang 6 cylinder (automatic) pulled up next to me. He proceeded to rev his engine when he rolled down his window and ask if I wanted to race. Well since I knew the street pretty well and it's not busy street, I said sure. Well first I gave him a car length and punched it and as hard as i tried I couldn't catch up. Then we turned back around and this time I held down the brake and put the gas around 2,500 rpm and when it turned green i let of the brake pedal and pushed the gas. Well this time I beat him but by only a car length. I asked him he had anything under the hood, cause it sure didn't sound like it, and confirmed my fears. I never had this problem with a mustang and a six cylinder no less. Now I'm asking myself if I lauched improperly, but it's the same technique I've used to be Firebird T/A's , 740il's, and even syclones. I'm considering even going to the dyno this saturday just to make sure my H.P. figures check out. I don't have coolant leaking like some people have had, or even tranny problems, but for some reason my truck was slow as snail's turd. The weather has kind of humid but still a six cylinder. maybe I'm losing my touch, I beg forgivness from all the rest of the L owners for making our trucks look bad.
you launched @ 2500rpm on the street!!! WOW!
There's your problem. If I even consider leaving above 1000rpm on the street my tires just go up in a very expensive cloud of smoke.
Change your launch and you will be singing a different tune

He must have had something done to it. Were you spinning with a 2500 r.p.m. launch on the street? If not, bring your L back to the dealer.V8 Mustangs should not be a problem with a stock L. But, I have seen V6's with the giggle juice
That could be a handful if properly tuned.

was it a 94-98 or the new V-6? They do have a few aftermarket bolt on's that will make em go. If it was a 99+ V-6, they have 190HP. But just think if he was running a 150 shot of N20, he would have 340HP running there. Don't kick yourself in the ***. He had to modded pretty well to hang with ya. Now a stock 99+ GT with a 5-speed can hang with a stock L. They are running anywhere from a 13.7-14.0 with 5-speed and a decent driver. Just because the GT is lighter, and has a 5-speed gives it the advantage to "hang" with a stock L.

First off I meant to say 1500 rpm's (sorry about the mistake) but as far him having funny juice. I didn't smell it, usually at least with most of the laffer's , I can smell it when they get to a stop. About the only thing I could see at least on visual inspection of my engine, is the radiator coolant isn't topped off, it's a mark on the container that says cold mark or something like that. Is that normal? Also I was running him uphill would that be a problem? And as far as him being modded I couldn't really hear anything out of the ordinary, and he still had the stock exhaust. Well anyways I won't make excuses, but this saturday I'll be going to Motorsports Technologies to get dynoed. If numbers don't come out correct I'll be taking it to the dealer first thing Monday morning. If by chance the numbers do come out correct than I'll seriously think about modding this ***** out.
GWERKS
Don't wait for a dyno run, mod that ***** out!!! Empty those pockets like the rest of us looneys. It's fun, try it.

Hey loosing to a v6 probably not stock. But I have lost more races than I have won.
Dakota 360 win L lost
383 Camaro win L lost
L w/gas wins L lost
New SS Camaro wins L lost
All races were close with in a couple of lengths but thats racing. I currently have a chip Mass Air & Filter. Gearing is basically stock and I was ahead in each race for the 1st 30ft or so.. Oh I have won a few too.

I drive a 99 V6 stang daily, and I've "raced" against it (not really a race) with my Lightning. A stock V6 would vanish into the background within seconds, it wouldn't even last long enough to be considered a race.
With that said the V6 stang in my opinion is one of the best built, toughest and reliable American "economy sport" cars out there.

Sounds to me like you have a problem with your truck or he wasn't stock.
I raced a V6 camero and put a few lengths on him with about 1/2 pedal.
Hard to believe a stock V6 stang would be a problem.
