Red face Going to the Shop Monday

Well I have an appointment for Monday morning for the following: (1) Lower a-frame bolt (SVT hotline says star washer) (2) Popping noise when turning (sounds like a 22 going off) (3) Hard starting when warm. I bet Iam going to get hosed real good. What do ya think?

Thumbs down

I'm going in for the same three things on Friday plus my seat wear. I hope like HELL they get the clunk fixed! It is annoying as all get out.

DUCK01

What's the story on your seat. Are they replacing something.

BadBolt-
I haven't showed it to them yet, but I mainly just want them to stuff some more padding between my a$$ and that bar on the left side. Maybe they could come up with some sort of plastic or soft rubber divider to put in there, too. Mine's not worn that bad yet, so I really don't need them to go through the trouble of replacing it. I just don't want it to get any worse. I'll keep y'all posted as to what happens, though. I just figure that I'll be treated right because the Service Manager whom I talked to owned an L. When I said "Lightning", he reached in his desk drawer and pulled out a box of 5/8" star washers. LOL!

After pulling the lower A arms off it's pretty obvious why we have clunk, the hole is not a hole but a slot. I found out the hard way instead of going with my gut and past history I tried to lower the front the "right way" by ordering aftermarket lower control arms. Big mistake as the anti-sway bar mounts were not in the right place. So I cut them off and re-welded the mounts in the correct place. Finished assembly and I found out when I cranked the steering wheel the inside of my wheels scraped on the inside of the new A arms and were shaving aluminum all over the place. Took them off threw them in the garbage and put the SVT arms back on, used lowered springs and put kits on the upper A arms for proper alignment. Much better. I cranked down pretty hard on the Nuts and Bolts and so far no clunk and I try to not turn the wheel all the way right or left.
In cranking down on the bolts I made sure the A arms could still move up and down.

Cool

I just got back from my free 3000 mile oil change (WHOOPIE!) Got the L on 5/26. I had the service dept look at that annoying "clunk and pop". They have ordered a new lower control arm assembly for the mighty L. Although I told them about the 5/8 in star washer, they went ahead and ordered the thing anyway! I will have it back in the shop on 7/19 with the new part. I will info you guys if that did the trick! GREAT WEB SITE!!!!

On my 99, it looks like the passensger seat has the same problem as the driver seat. That is, insufficent padding over the outer seat frame. You got same?

By the way, concerning replacing the lower control arms, it took three weeks before my parts came in. Interesting that you are getting yours so fast, HTRDPUP.

Well the good news, my dealer gave me a free loaner car (an escort, makes you love your truck more) and lubing the steering stops, makes the popping noise go away. Wonder what will happen in a month or two duh? The bad or questionable news, couldn't get the hard starting problem or a code to show up. And the most unbelieveable, my dealer says SVT has no solution to the a-arm bolt movement! I told my dealer that SVT told me over phone of the star washer fix but they said SVT told them otherwise. W T F. Hey, SVT, if you moniter this web site, how bout explaining or better yet contact me and my dealer. You know me, Black 99 L #1940, the guy that calls all the time. Sorry for my vent people, well got to go to work to pay for my clunking, popping truck!
