Question Trailer Lighting Problem

I just bought a trailer to hook up to my '00 L, but I'm having a problem getting all the lights to work. I have installed the 2 relays which came with the truck and am using the provided adapter to hook up to the 4 prong plug coming from the trailer. The parking lights work, turn signals are very dim and the brake lights don't work at all. The trailer is brand new and I've double checked the trailer wiring to the lights and it looks okay. Any suggestions? Thanks

Andy

I have had the same problem happen to me, just happened to be when the trailer was empty. The ball was not receiving a good ground.

NsTiG8r - ExpyBob has the right idea. I had a similar problem and traced it to the lights being grounded to the trailer and trying to use the ball as the connection. I moved the ground for the lights from the trailer to the wiring harness and it worked like a charm.
Good luck!

Yep, sounds like a weak ground. Just this past weekend I rented a 12ft., dual axle, surge braked, enclosed trailer from U-Haul to transport some furnature down to Ft. Lauderdale (about 200 miles each way). The harness adapter I purchased from U-Haul for $3.75 included an alligator clip ground wire which I attached to a spot on the tounge. Worked great! All lights worked perfect.

BTW, the L towed this big trailer like a champ. Kept it on 65 (rather than 85, for a change) for the trip and never had any problems. When I unhooked it, the truck felt like a sports car!

Are you sure you're grounded good? Souns like that might be it. Don't depend on the ball to do it. For what it's worth--Bob
