Post Oil Change Questions

Gang:

I have a few questions regarding your oil change strategy with your Lightning. I'm planning on changing the oil on mine this week (1000 miles on the clock) with the OEM (Motorcraft) filter and Castrol GTX 5W-30 mineral oil. Beyond this I'm not too sure. I'm curious regarding:

Point at which I should switch to synthetic oil (I'm planning on going with Mobil 1 5W-30).

Oil change interval with synthetic oil.

Oil change interval while still on mineral oil.

Any other tricks or tips.

I'm also curious if any of you have noticed increased oil leakage following the switch to synthetic oil. Back in my motorcycle days, I rode a 1983 Suzuki GS1100E (a low-11-second beast). I switched over to synthetic oil once I could afford it (about 40,000 miles on the clock), and it started weeping oil out of every pore. The owner of the Suziki shop (God rest his soul) had studied lubrication hard-core in the Navy, and had warned me of exactly that phenomenon. He was right, and how! It took a lot of tubes of black silicone to stop all of that seepage, where previously it had been perfectly oil-tight (I'm an obsessive detailer). Anybody seen this with their Lightning?

Silver,

I changed/converted to synthetic oil at 2000 miles and to date (11,000 miles) have had not one drip. I'm a detail freak too and leaks are not acceptable.

I change my oil every 3000 miles with Mobil One tri-synthetic.

Something eslet o think about is a Filtermag. it traps ferrous metal particles greateer than or egual too 2 microns (sub cellular level).

I put to gether a group discount for which the infor is listed on the foloowing thread: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/004031.html

For the original thread with comments from others see https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/003924.html

If you order one (recommended) ask for bill and tell him Robert sent ya!

Good stuff!
