ouch
Got my black 99 L about 90 days ago. Somewhat slower than my old mustang but have been adding little items here and there. Those ABS brakes are incredible. Someone stopped short of me Friday and I had to stand on the brakes. I thought for sure that my new billet grill was going to be emblazoned on this guys trunk. The L stopped with 1 foot to spare and I thought "Geez, that was close" when blaaaam, a 93 f150 slammed into me causing some $2400 damage (according to Progressive) Tailgate, bumper gone, rear fender buckeled, bed slid forward and creased the cab, various other bumps and bruises. I wanted to regurgitate. My first thought was that she has lost her virginity and I'm going to trade it in on 2001. Thanks for the opportunity to ventilate.............
My sentiments exactly! My guess would have been a grand more. Progressive Insurance comes right out to the scene and makes the estimate and cuts the check on the spot (minus the deductable). The fine print states if there is a discrepency the body shop and Progressive will hammer out the differences. We'll see how it washes out.
Sorry to hear it, that is really a bummer. I posted here once that the best thing about the L. was the brakes. Had to make a couple emergency stops, and they really saved my bacon. There was a lot of contrary opinion, but it still amazes me how quick the stock brakes can pull down a 5000 lb. vehicle from over the century.
Very sorry to hear. It would almost feel like a death in the family to have the L crunched.

Hey Ken-
If it makes you feel better, my red 2000 needs some cosmetic work after being rear-ended by a 'Shovie' panel van last Friday (the 4th of July weekend).
I don't have as much damage to repair - needs a new rear bumper and paint (for the bumper and for the bed where the bumper bent into it), but still close to $2000- cost to repair.
The worst part of my situation is it turns out that the other jerk-ash driver doesn't have insurance... so we'll sick the lawyers and the state after him. Thank goodness for uninsured motorist coverage. But if I see him again, I don't know if I can control myself...
Good Luck, I can understand what you're going through!
