Removing water pump?

Got all 4 screws removed and the damn thing still won't budge. Is there something I am missing?

Yank like a ****...

The pump is in there really hard. It's best if you can get some leverage on it.

It'll come out... I "LIGHTLY" tapped on it with a hammer and it came loose.

Then it got donated for experimentation to a local engineer... WYDOPNTHRTL, the Water pump GURU!

A few taps with a hammer should do the trick.

Not to hijack the thread but which water pump is definitively considered "the best" now? I know there was debate about the Cobra R pump causing a slight hp loss. Then there's the Meziere, and I think the 03 04 Lightning water pumps were different from the early years? What is the de facto standard for consistent cooling and maybe freeing up some hp?

Although there have been reports to the contrary, any HP gains from a water pump -- even an electric one -- will likely be minimal. According to Rich, one of the guys who develops modular pumps, the Navigator pump (same as 03-04 Lightning but without the fan) has the best combination of flow and drive HP losses.

"Cobra" v. Navi:

The 2004 Navigator water pump is part #3L3Z8501CA. $116 from fordpartsonline.

I will agree with Tim on that one.....also i think the Navi pump is cast from alluminum so the weight loss will compensate for your subway sandwich

It's cast aluminum, the fan shaft is much shorter (just a stub) and it weighs a whole lot less. Actually the so called Navi water pump is the same one Ford uses on all the 2006's with the 5.4 engines. If you have anything older than an 03 lightning you will also get an upgraded impellar. The 02's and earlier were not shrouded.

Thanks guys! Very helpful responses. I have the electric fan and am still running my stock 2000 pump. I will look into the Navi setup.

Yes it will work. That's a pic of the one that went into my 00.

I bought it for $86 from Tousley Ford in Minnesota.
