Wink Rear Window and Peter B

Hey Peter,

Did you ever replace your rear window with a non-slider? I've been looking into it and found out:

1. These are special windows that bolt in.
2. Removal of inner and outer trim is required.
3. The Ford list prices are $834 for the light tint and $1027 for the Privacy tint.
4. These prices do not include installation.
5. On July 3rd the list prices increase to $1485 and $1856 respectively.
6. These are net prices and independent installers can't get much of a break.

This seems like a hell of a price for a little glass. Of course, they have no need for the removed slider.

Oh well, another idea shot down!

adp,
Sorry haven't been on the computer much, just saw your post.

No, have not installed the rear window yet. But, I do have a brand new Ford solid window sitting in my garage in the box. I went to the dealer that I bought my L from. He pulled it up the price and said it was like just under $1,000. I said give me a break for a piece of glass, no way. He says, hold on here, let me see, so he pulls up this other part number and says, a customer ordered it and decided he doesn't want it. I can let you have it for $125. Sold! I loaded it up and went on my merry way. It is a solid window and it is the dark factory tint. I've been real busy at work and with my rental properties that I have not had it installed yet. About $75 for the install. I'll let you know as soon as I do and I'll post pics for everyone.
Haven't done anything on my computer as far as upgrades, and haven't looked into a new printer yet.
Keep in touch!

2000Trade-in,
No, actually didn't hit the Cinders. Spent a very nice relaxing weekend with my wife lounging poolside and also looking at new homes. It was nice for a change to not spend time packing and rushing out of town.

2" drop shackles from AIM-inexpensive price and piece of cake to install, best $45 I've ever spent. Not gonna mess with the suspension on the front though. This thing is my daily driver and I love that I don't have to worry about curbs the way it sits.

I'll email you when I'm ready to do some upgrades to my system. I'll need a new printer (for my digital camera stuff, and I should probably upgrade my motherboard.

Thanks SVT54SC,

I found a local guy who ordered the Ford Privacy window before the price increase. It still will cost $700 installed but it's only money! Ha!

Hey Guys,
I've had the dark privacy glass installed
on my 99 Lightning since June of 99. It makes
the truck look alot better then the slider.
I paid $150 from a specialty shop that took
it out of a truck that had a powerslider put
in its place. Then I paid a glass shop $55
to install it for me. So check around at some
different shops or even a junk yard till you
find one. By the way when you get it installed make sure that it is sealed good,
mine wasn't and I had to go back cause it
leaked really bad.

Wow, looks like I got one heck of a smokin deal. Looks like the dealer made a mistake when he sold it to me for $125.
