Post Fixing Lightning Dings

Oh no! My first ding. I got through almost a year with no dings, but something dropped on my hood the other day and left a slight indentation. To me, it is like a flashing red light that illuminates every time I see it, and of course I always have to look at it. I know there are companys that fix minor dings with magnets. Does anyone know if one can buy a magnet repair kit, so that one can have it for future use?

Check with your dealer and see who they use for paintless dent removal. In NJ a guy called "Mr. Dent" comes over to your place and works his magic with a variety of tools and heat. Costs about 100 bucks and well worth it. I had a door ding and when he finished, you couldn't tell where it was, and my L is Black! Really no need to buy something yourself because thats all these guys do and they definitly have the skill.

Jason:

Interestingly enough, that was my first thought! It is a very, very small, probably not noticeable by most people, ding, but it magnifies itself a hundred times in my critical eyes. I remember a friend of mine having two similar dings fixed by someone that comes to your sight, and does it with some sort of magnet device. No paint, quick, and could not see the dings after the procedure. It was not expensive either. I was hoping someone had some info on the equipment used, because it my be worthwile just owning the stuff for future needs.

Thanks Dave, I guess if were as simple as purchasing a couple of cheap tools at the auto supply store these guys would have no business. I know those guys work some real magic.

Sorry to say but magnets will not work on your hood it is aluminum. If you feel brave you can ease the ding out yourself. Just be careful because it is real easy to turn that innie into an outie in that soft aluminum. Goodluck.

Question

Hi all,

Does anyone know where to find a good proceedure for touching-up rock chips. I'm a little leary of 'attacking' my black L with a simple touch-up bottle and brush.

Thanks in advance,
Jake...

P.S. Sandy, I had a ding removed from my L via paintless dent removal. I was VERY impressed with the results!

What is the number for Mr. Dent? Does he come to your house or to the dealer?
PS: Have you noticed that Village Ford in Ridgewood has two unsold Lightnings?

Baby Jake-

Though I've never done it personally, I saw a big thing on TV about repairing chips. The guy got fine grit sandpaper, cut a small square, and glued it to the back of a match stick. He then smoothed the chip down very carefully. Once it was fairly smooth, he cleaned it with alcohol and let it dry. While the alcohol dried, the guy trimmed the paintbrush that came inside the touchup paint bottle to make it shorter and angled (for better control). He put on one coat, let it dry, and then repeated the entire process two or three times (until the paint was perfectly smooth). Supposedly, it takes a while, but you shouldn't be able to tell that it was chipped after it is done.

BTW, you think this will work on the big scratch I got under my valence at WFC? I didn't think so.

There's a dent place here that's been in business for about 10-15 years, and the guy uses dry ice to pop out hail dents, etc. I'm not sure how, but that DOES work.
