Clunking sound?

So i've had my ford dealer grease the steering stops 3 times now and I still get that annoying clunk sound when I brake hard, or crank the wheel all the way to the left or right when in reverse.

Does anyone know where I can get a set of those special washers?

Tony

The washers are definitely a must, however they may not fix the problem. I have them, greased steering stops and greased ball joints, yet I still have a clunk that occurs exactly as you describe.

Try hittin the upper control arm bolts with an impact. Its sounds stupid but worked for me. When an alignment is done, they are sometimes not tightened properly.

Check for slack in the front anti-sway bar links.

Clunk washers plus water-proof grease on the stops completely eliminated my 5-10 clunks per week...... knock on wood!!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys

I'm gonna get a set of those clunk washers and have them grease the steering stops again and hopefully that takes care of the noise.

It has never bothered me too much, but when i'm backing out of a cramped parking spot and my truck make that noise, people always stare at me like I just smashed in their bumper.

I'll let you know if the washers help.

Forgot to ask

What should I tell my dealer about how to install these things?

I've seen some install pics and it looks like they just go on the control arms?

Also, do I really need an alignment after these things are installed?
