Wink shift kit installed BY TRANSGO

A few weeks ago I was gonna install my transgo shift kit, I called the tech line to ask some questions, and ended up talking to a SUPER COOL tech there. Turns out they are not too far from me and he invited me to come on down and he would do the install, getting the shifts exactly how I want them, for FREE.

Finally today my schedule worked out so I could have it done. All I can say is, WOW! He got the shifts exactly right. I told him I wanted the best possible shifting for the 1/4 mile and the sucker shifts FAST, so far always at the optimal RPM, without spinning tires at shift points! I can downshift instantly and it basically feels like I have a chip, which I don't.

Has anyone had their chip calibrated so that the cylinders don't shut off during shifts? The tech told me with the firm shifts I have I don't need the cylinders shutting off.

Anyways the guys there are great and it was nice to have the kit installed by the people who designed it. Before anyone installs a transgo shift kit I would recommend calling the tech line and asking Dave about the proper specs for the Lightning.

Mike

Hey Mike, boy did you score! On the two points you brought up, Chip and Cyl shut off, I understand that the aftermarket chips eliminate the "cyl shut off during shifts".
I also understand that Hyperchip is making a "Plug in" to the pcm port programmer that you can elim the shut off and change the shift points and rev limiter. All this without removing the stock chip sounds worth the wait. I was told by a very respected trans guy here in town that he does the same thing you did with a Transgo to "L"s without using their product, but charges 185 for the mod. I have heard from 2 L owners that he is awesome.
Are you going to eventually put a chip in?

Hey Mike,
Does the kit void the powertrain warranty?

Just for reference, there is no stock chip to pull out.

PD- Have you checked out who this guy locally is? If you don't pass on the info and I'll check him out. I have a chip, but I know their is much room for improvement. From what I can feel, the chip increases line pressure (15-20%, I'm told), eliminates 2 delay features, one on downshift and the other on upshift, and resets the shift point (mine is at 5600). The shift quality still is not there! The lock-up/ unlock in overdrive still causes a delay when the throttle is pressed partial or full, and the shifting speed is too slow (I have had tranny's that shifted quick without being excessively hard), I am sure this can be corrected with something resembling a shift kit.

BACK2FORD,

You'll be very pleased if you install a TransGo shift kit. I have a chip, too, and adding the shift kit made the shifts significantly quicker and firmer.

I think the shift kit and a good chip work great together.

Installation of the TG kit is simple. I've installed one in my L and another in my '00 Expy. Easy for a novice.

Should one notify a chip burner of an installed shift kit? Or plans for one? Or is it like the exhaust and doesn't require chip reburn?

I just installed my TransGo kit and left my Superchip in. No issues at all.

Now just recently I installed Sal's "basic" chip for the '99. I told him it had a shift kit in it...and it still shifts signficantly firmer and more positive than it did with the shift kit + Superchip.

So, if you're going to order a chip, I'd let the tuner know, but it shouldn't be a big deal. I don't believe you can hurt stuff with both in there working in conjunction with one another.

JIGAWATT would be the person to talk to about this.
