Question Question for those with aftermarket dual exhaust

I had my local muffler shop install 2/2 chamber Flowmasters on my L. It sounds great but I've noticed a loss in power in the mid to high range. They did not install a crossover pipe. Did you guys go with any type of crossover pipe ('X' or 'H')? The other thing I noticed is that they put on Flowmasters with 2.25" dia inlets and outlets and adapters. I know our L's have 2.5" dia exhaust pipe. I did not save the stock muffler so I don't know if the L came with 2.25" dia inlets and outlets with adapters. Could this imposed restriction be contributing to the loss in power? Thanks.

Yes I think it is causing a problem. They should have used the right mufflers without adapters. And, the lack of a cross over will cause a loss of horse power regardless of whatever else you do to your exhaust, unless of course you are running open headers.

I put a Borla cat-back on my L and it had no noticeable impact on low end torque, and it seems to have helped the upper end. I did not do any dyno testing in case anyone is wondering.

The stock muffler has no adapters of any kind. It is a straight slip fit onto the head pipes, and the tailpipes are welded directly to the muffler.

If the tips are welded on, why the clamps?

The tailpipes are welded to the muffler, but the tips are clamped to the tailpipes.

Tundra: I think he means the bent piping leading to the ceramic tips is welded, actually part of the muffler.

NsTiG8r: The piping is 2.5". They need to put the right mufflers on, the 2.5" in/2.5"out.
