Post Transmission Noise?

Truck's scheduled for the dealer on Monday for what seems to be a loud transmission whine between the speeds of 40 - 60 mpg. It's the same tone that the transmission makes in 1st and 2nd. during a downshift.

Cab is sound-proofed so it must be really loud.

Does anybody have any insight as to what this might be?

Thanks,

If I said RED was the fastest color, or something really interesting like that, do you think I'd get a response from somebody.

Dealer jerked me around on Monday, they didn't have time to get to it all day. Wife says the sound is coming from the back not the transmission. Let's see who's right on Saturday.

Has anyone needed service for anything like this?

Thanks,

Rich

Do have the stock gears in the rear end? It could be that. Check for a leak around there.

TBL - I haven't had that problem with my L but I had a similar problem with a 97 F150 that had 373's in it from the factory. The noise was in the rearend but wasn't a big deal to fix. What dealer you using? You can email me that if you would rather not go into the here.

BTW, who did the sound-proofing in your L and what did they use?

Dealer says it's a wind noise.

Will be taping up the billet grills this weekend to eliminate that question.

Hey TampabayLightning, you said you had a whine and not a whistle, so, I would think mechanical and not an aerodynamic problem would be causing your problem. You are in the right direction by eliminating one item at a time. Who is your dealer, Bill Currie? Had all good dealing with them in the past, as I was born and raised in Tampa, Interbay area by MacDill. Good luck and keep us posted.

Fast Gator:

Brandon Ford is the dealer. Bill Currie is not an SVT dealer, but you're right, they are great. Purchase a few vehicles from them.

Grew up in the same area. Don't tell me you're a Robinsin alumni?

Hey TBL - Just curious, are you sure about Currie not being an SVT dealer? I didn't think they could order an SVT vehicle from Ford unless they were. They had new ones on the lot when I was waiting for mine to arrive. Maybe they are dealer trading for them?

TBL,
Hope you have better luck with Brandon Ford than I did. I bought 3 vehicles from them when I lived down there and they never seemed to be able to get the problems fixed the first time. Good luck.
