I really can't give you too much info (I've only been to LSR once), but I'll tell you what I do know. The Friday I went, there were 4 elimination rounds and all types of cars running.

I dialed in a 9.35 (I only had 2K miles on my L), but Noel (stock with slicks..I think) dialed in a 9.0X (9.06 maybe) and Jarrod (not sure of mods) dialed in an 8.8X. Figuring an approximate dial in isn't that hard, but getting it exact takes consistent RT's and lots of practice/runs. I wish I could tell you more, but like I said, I am inexperienced. It just seems that every time I have a free Friday, it rains. Oh well...there's always NEXT Friday.

Ok, I know I am prejudice, BUT here goes...
To me 1/8 mile racing is NOT drag racing.

The reason I feel that way is because I grew
up with full 1/4 tracks around, never went to an 1/8 mile track.

Thanks for you guys posting anyway, BUT
I will refresh this post until someone steps to the plate with a 1/4 mile down and dirty
ET bracket racing WIN !

Come on guys, someone must of got lucky on a particular night. Ready for flames from 1/8 mile guys.

Cool

I had 13 wins or runners-up last year bracket racing. A couple of open comp rankings too (check out the MM&FF coverage of the Ennis FFW). I have a bookshelf full of trophies from the past couple of years. (NOW I'm bragging. LOL!)

I can't begin to tell you who all my victims were, what my dial-ins were, or anything like that. My MOV usually wasn't more than a couple of hundreths no matter what because I drive the track rather than run the ET and I sandbag.

I honestly thought that since CA and I were both facing Gen 1 trucks at the WFC that we'd have an easy time of it since we had basically hot-lapped. Nope. These trucks don't like heat. Mine wouldn't run it's dial-in. I had the worst run of the weekend in the semi-finals (that I didn't have my foot on the brake, anyway), something like a 13.93@97 mph, and I beat my opponent on the tree by nearly two tenths. :-/

Like Jeff, I'm an avid bracket racer myself. I used to bracket my 95 Lightning, which was consistant as heck. I've had numerous winner and runner ups from my local track with that truck. I was also the Bracket 3 winner at the 97 Motorpsort Nationals (check out MM&FF Oct 97). With the 99, I've been concentrating more on ETs, since I have to develop new products. I've tried to run the eliminator on the Nittos, but without launch consistancy, I had little luck. Since switching to the ET Street though, I've done well in the brackets. Went a few rounds at the WFC (also had best reaction time) and was runner up two weeks ago at my local track. Both generations of Lightnings make great bracket trucks, the key is consistant launching.

Post Winners in ET bracket racing

I don't care what chip etc. you are running but you can mention it if you wish, BUT has anyone won a bracket race ? Please tell us how many rounds you had, what your winning ET was and your dial-in etc. Any tips you want to share. All this net racing is cool but I'd like to hear from the real warriors.
Please tell us who you spanked in the final, a Camaro ? : ^ ) Thanks

I've been out twice in the Lightning. The first time I made it to the fourth round before getting eliminated. Second time I dialed a 14.05 and ran a 14.03 in the first round.

I'm new to drag racing and trying to get better. The truck is real consistent, but tends to get a little faster on each run. I have to learn how to anticipate this.

Well, I've been racing on and off for 17 years. As far as the L, last time out I made it to the final round but lost it with a .49X redlight. It really is a great bracket truck though. Easy to cut lights, easy to launch , and great brakes. I can't remember exactly how many class wins I have, but for several years I was called Mr. Five Foot Trophy at Dragway 42. Those wins were with my Chevelle and Camaro. The Cobra has not been consistent enough to be a great bracket car, but has it's share of round wins. I just put up a page of tips, but it may have some errors.

Let me know if you see something wrong. Most racers were impressed with the ET's the GN got, but considered them poor drag cars. I hope we can show the L is good at both ET and winning. Good luck and kick some a$$.

Perhaps you don't like 1/8 racing because reacton time and launch are more important than they are in 1/4. Anyway for some of us this is the only close track. Also at our 1/8 track on Friday nite for $15 you can get up to 40 passes if you desire. This is very important because in 1/8 reaction time is verrrry important. If your opponant gets a .1 or better reaction time you are not going to win in bracket racing unless he has posted a really off dial-in and you make him brake out. Many runs gives you a chance to pick a good dial in although these trucks run better as it gets later and the air gets heavier and the track grips better as the sun goes down. I start competition (7 PM) with a bracket time based on most of my practice runs. If you get to the semis and its after 10 PM lower your dial in to your best pass for the nite. Remember, if you are ahead slow down. You must be able to have consistant reaction times under .55 to win, has been my experience. I power brake just enought to take all the slack out of the drivetrain and lock up the converter, about 800-1000. I hammer on the third yellow. I have been getting really consistant reaction times under .55

I envy your RT, try as I might, my RT on the 3rd yellow is always .80x

I found that rolling in a little deep, (no deep staging) leaving on the 3rd yellow gets me at .6xx and even .56x sometimes.

I'll hopefully get better, your right I need the top end to make up ground : ^ )
