Post Question for Sal!!

Could you please give any info on the adjustable settings in the Lightning computer programming such as octane settings etc. Since you are a factory tech, I would think you would know more about this than the other people on this board that have dicussed it on numerous threads with no input from you. It seems that other people have taken their L's in and had the tech tell them that the computer was set for 87 octane. Please respond Sal, if you will.

Sal - I second the motion. We still do not know if your chip or any of the chips for the 2000L defeat the 87 octane setting. Sal, as a ford mechanic you shoul know this, you must have the machine that checks for this (unlike your competitors who only have their chip making software). Also, you need to post info on what your chip is doing for the 2000L's. You are losing lots of sales, due to the fact that all of your results on this board are on 99L's. You can post information instead of promoting your product if that is a concern. Or have one of your PSP team members release some info. This is getting frustrating.

Hey guys, Sal here. I've been meaning to reply to this subject. Many Ford PCMs currently allow changing certain parameters via Ford scan tools. It is not just the Lightning. This can be done using either the NGS ($1700 with the extra card you need to do it) or the WDS ($10,000). But people are really getting the wrong idea. This is not a "factory" tuning menu. There are only about 5 or 6 things you can actually change, such as tire size, axle ratio, tone ring setting (speed sensor related), octane adjust, and a few others that escape me at the moment. Tire size is self expanitory, axle ratio I have already told everyone that you can't change the 3.55 setting on the Lightning PCM, tone ring is notning of concern and octane adjust is simply enabling the ability for the PCM to PULL a tad more timing in case of spark knock. That's it. There is nothing to set for the timing, and it does not add any timing. Most Ford vehicles usually come with the octane adjust set for the poorest possible fuel. Switching that setting just stops it from pulling as much timing. If you get an aftermarket chip of any brand, it overrides all of these settings anyway. I hope nobody PAID to have thier octane setting changed That's about it, any other questions just ask

Sal - Thank you for clearing this up once and for all. Next, how about the 2000L chip thing. Superchips is getting 11hp more at max, but lots more torque, Swanson is claiming up to 40hp but only LQ has a 1/4 time, and his chip is not really steetable.
Talk to me, Sal.

Sal, If the octane is set for 87 can a person run lower grade fuels without problems? Also if an owner decided he/she were never going to be chipped, is there any performance advantage gained by changing the octane setting to a higher number? Thanks.

Mike
