Remember to lower the pressure in the rear tires.
Remember to remove any extra weight.
Drive around the burnout box, then back into it.
Do a nice burnout. Stay in it for 3 - 5 secs after you start to see smoke.
Go as soon as you see the third orange light on the tree light up.
Let us know how it turns out, you will have a blast.
Props for taking it to the track

I'm planning on running 12 psi in my Drag Radials, run with about a half a tank of gas, and i might possibly throw in 5 gallons of race fuel just for the hell of it.
I'll let you know how i make out.
And as for taking it to the track, i'm 38. I've had my share of tickets. My all time record was 21 points when i was 20 years old.
I don't need that headache anymore.
Go out and practice leaving until you can leave just hazing the tires between lighting them and just easing out. Then go do him wrong then laugh cause you did it in a truck.
You should be ok. They're quick, but from what you listed you have, your quicker. He is more likely to blow his tires off the launch, if he has a stick, due to being too anxious.
Good luck.

a track newbie can turn a potentially good race into a terrible loss and it's going to happen between the tree and the 60 ft mark. sneak out to a track test and tune a couple times and then race. find a drag racing 101 in a drag racing section or google for it.... you need to understand the full proceedure from going around the water box to watching the lights count down for a good ET to launching the truck. learn what "courtesy staging" means.... I HATE it when newbs are sitting there staged while i'm finishing up my burnout!! argh. learn how to shallow stage and the benefit. practice your burnout (don't do one with street tires). you will need to get used to actually leaving before the green comes on... at least that's what it feels like when you first do it. you must mash the gas the instant the 3rd yellow comes on. the lights come on a half second (.500) apart... when you see that 3rd bulb come on it takes an average human just over .200 seconds to react, and the "rollout" on your truck will be about .300 which is how much time it takes to spool up your truck and move it about a foot which is far enough to roll out of the staging beams which is when the timers start counting your ET. your reaction time has no effect on your ET. so you could have a bad reaction time but faster ET and still cross the finish line last and your mustang buddy will claim he won the race and in my opinion he did. good luck, it is a lot of fun.
Awesome advice guys. I found a desolate spot, and practiced a few hole shots , and i'm getting some idea on the way my truck reacts to throttle inputs.
And as (bad) luck would have it, my friend whussed out.
Supposedly, second gear went on him, so he's in no shape to go racing.
We'll see what happens.
I still plan on getting some track time though. It seems addicting as hell.
I might head down on Wed.
