JDM exhaust hacked in!!!!
JDM exhaust hacked in!!!!
Well we finally went to put the system in the L that I got from jdm and we ran into problems right after getting the headers on. The midpipes that they sent me had 3" swedges and the pipes were 2.5 inches. There was a 1/4 inch play all the way around the joints.. So after cutting the swedge ends off the pipes we had to weld the to 2.5 inch ends directly together. Then when we finally got to the exits they were a little under a foot too long... By this time the installer was furious and could not beleive that I payed 2gs for this system. Being a specialist in exhaust systems he was able to make it work useing some pipe and new bungs he had laying around his shop.. 8 hours later the system is on and being dyno tuned right now. If I was not in such a rush to get the pipes like an idiot I could have got the same thing done with his parts and pipes for almost half the price. Now I know for future I should ask around and see what is the good systems to go with... Thank god he was able to cut and hack that system up to make it work. Ill have the sheets posted by the end of the week once all the other parts get put on....
Sorry your not happy with JDM's exhaust fittment, I have JDM's long tubes and highflows with a non JDM cat back, while the catback fit like a** and took some real work to fit the rest of the system fit dam nice, no complaints here. Why didn't you stop the install after you saw the fittment issues and poor alignment? I think your right for 2K it should fit nice if you reciveved a bad set of pipes I'm sure JDM would have taken them back without a hassle.

Hey where was the issue with the fittment the "swedge" was it on the straight pipes we sent you or with the pipes after that. There is no point on the entire exhaust system that is bumped out to 3" Unless the catless pipes you got from us were bumped out that far. Those pipes are also too long and need to be cut short, I assume thats what you meant when you called the shop this morning.
How about calling me or sending me some pics to Sales@teamjdm of the system.

The catless pipes were bumped out to a 3 and 1/8" id and the pipes were 2.5" id.. So when they installed them they were very loose and would rattle right out. they had to cut the swedge fittings off and welde the 2.5 to 2.5 inch pipes together. I did not know that the pipes had to be cut. I would have thought that would be done before hand. Every 01 L is the same... But they are real good with exhuast so they were able to make it work.. It took alot of time, welding, cutting, bending etc.... But they got it.... Sounds good, cant wait to get it back so I can drive it. Still have a lot of parts to go on and a lot of tuning also.

There shouldnt have had to be any kind of bending going on either. The catless pipes are cut long for us because we sometimes send the to people who already have a catted system and they need to be fit to size. Thats because our systems were originally made in house and each system was slightly different than the next (being made by man not machine) The catless pipes we sent you really just had to be cut to size then bumped up to fit the 2 1/2" pipe inside and then clamp or weld it, which is maybe 1/2-1 hr of work at any muffler shop. Welding new flanges would take alot longer to do.
Im sorry for the inconvience however and good luck with the tuning

wow.
I've installed a JDM system on my old man's truck, took it off when he blew it up, installed it on an 03, installed a full system on mine, and on eluzion's truck and never had any issues like that at all. This is when they were building them in house.
Sorry to hear about your troubles but the sound will be well worth it!!!
Hey JimIII, where's my chip

Hey JimIII, where's my chip
I bought one for my 2000
Ran it for 40,000 or more miles - took it off
put the truck back to stock and then sold the truck
Bought a 2004 had Terry at Performance Research install it on the 2004 and it fit perfect. I've run it for an additional 20,000 miles or so. It slid on to the stock hangers and everything.
No complaints here. No cutting or welding involved either time...

Something doesnt seem right....I know "professional installers of exhaust systems" stated that the L engine had to be jacked up to install JDM's longtubes... WRONG... you sure he knew what he was doing... b/c I have never heard of anyone having to Hack the system.... Not trying to be a **** here.. just asking a question....

Why not make it right by him and give him a store credit toward future purchases for a percentage of what he paid for your "each system was slightly different than the next" exhaust system.
