Arrow MAJOR IMPORTANT TO L OWNERS

As I was leaving the lot of the dealership where I work, I noticed a 99 L sitting in the service area to be worked on. I saw a major dent on the passenger side of the front fender.

While I was looking it over, John Gentery (the service writer) told me that the owner did not re-torque the rims after 500 miles. Because the rims were not re-tightened, they came loose and while making a turn the wheel came off and put a rather large wheel size crease in the fender.

I said, "WHAT?" John told me that it is in the manual that after 500 miles on a new Lightning, the rims MUST BE re-tightened.

I thought that I would let everyone know.

P.S. I tried to find any such info. in the manual and was not successful.

Just passing along something that might have a potential danger.

I would have to see that in writing,

If true the government would "demand" BIG yellow stickers on the steering wheel as folks picked up their trucks.

Can't believe everything you hear.
Never hear of this in any new car I've purchased. BUT I could be wrong, been wrong before.

Thumbs up

Seeing how the dealer replaced my fuel pump at 2000 miles, they had better have done this if needed. I can say lawsuit really easy

But I don't buy it... sounds like hog wash

I remember seeing someting about checking torque on lugs after 500 miles if equipped with aluminum wheels in more than one auto's manual, I would imagine the same would apply to a Lightning.

I got nervous regarding what I saw today that I went down to a large tire store and they looked up the torque to use.

They could not find a Lightning but they noticed almost all trucks are set at 100 ft. lbs. They found two of my lug nuts loose. They also told me that they recommend re-torqueing after 100 miles after changing over to new alloy wheels.

This post struck me because I "brushed" a curb just enough to take the balance off of my right rear wheel,so I went and had it re-balanced and the guy at the shop told me to bring it back in after about 100 miles or so to have the lugs checked because "aluminum wheels have been know to loosen up"...Umm ok?
Needless to say I had them checked just to be safe.
