Mac Exhaust

Anyone running the mac bolt on exhaust? It's not a bad looking exhaust and it's really cheap. Even has big stainless tips on it. Was going to leave it stock but..... I have changed my mind!!

Don't do it. Mac exhaust= mild steel construction=no stainless=rust in a year. Your better spending a little more on a quality exhaust for years of problem free driving.

Mondo, Have you ever had a Mac exhaust? I've had mine for 4 years and it's not rusty at all. I like the sound of it too

How does it sound compared to stock? I want something with a little more rumble and louder with nice tips! Know anywhere a sound clip is of mac exhaust? I really like the looks of it in the pics too.

if you live in a place near the ocean or where they salt the roads in the winter (and it's your DD) then you may want to lean towards a stainless setup. If that's not so much of a concern you should be fine with the MAC. off the top of my head the only place I would think would have a sound clip would be lightningrodder.com

I have MAC and it sounds real nice. Nice throaty tone... A little raspy, but definitely NOT glasspacked sound.

I have bassani headers, hi flows and baffles also, but bolting it on stock sounded nice.

My tips are in rough condition, but I've never cleaned them, and it sits in storage 7-8months/year.

Have I ever had a Mac exhaust, you ask? Well lets see..... I had bought a set of Mac headers for my 95 Gen I in 1997 with their "special coating" and they flaked off within 6 Months exposing the unpreparred rusty metal underneath. They also fit like junk( I had to modify my AC lines big time) At the same time, I bought an H-pipe for my 90 LX mustang and THAT began to rust within a year. My stainless magnaflow catback that was attatched to it is still like new.So, yes I have owned Mac products and personally, I think they are terrible. Bottom line exhaust systems and components should ALWAYS be stainless steel of some type or form. Mac does not do it. (hence the cheap price) If you do a search on this forum, I remember many complaining about the Mac catback only a few months after they came out. I am very surprized you have no issues.I'd love to see a pic of the inside of your "Chrome" tips. A quality truck like the Lightning deserves quality parts. Thats my opinion.

I bought my MAC catback used and has been on my truck for at couple of years with no rust problems(not a DD). The problem mentioned was that the inside of the tips would rust but that was easily solved by painting with high temp paint. MAC has since switched to full stainless tips now I beleive. Exhaust drone in cab is too lound IMO. Sounds great at idle though.
