Beginning mods - Opinions pls.

Hello,

Im pretty new to this forum and new to the Lightning scene. Im looking to make this truck a bit faster. For starting mods I plan on a Lo-tek gauge pod with a 0-30psi blower guage, fuel pressure and AEM wideband just to monitor powertrain conditions. Once that is done I plan to add the Moto-blue upper supercharger pulley + hub (2.75") and their tensioner assembly. From what I understand this should increase boost pressure by +3 psi. Depending on how A/F reads I might either tune it with that SCT X2 or wire in an APEX-i AFC. My current mods are some ceramic coated headers (type unknown), Bassani x-pipe / cat-back setup, and a CAI, all of which came with the truck.

I guess what im asking is..should I be upgrading pulleys and looking for more power? or should I immediatly start with the transmission upgrades such as the upgraded valve body mods, Ford Racing upgraded trans pan + external cooler upgrade? Personally increasing the power on this truck can wait if it is crucial to upgrade the transmission. I just want to keep it safe. Ive heard the rumors with the engine only being able to hold 475 RWHP? Im not sure about the tranny.

Any info is appriciated.

My L is stock, but I read the forums for quite a while befor I did anything. I did the FTVB and the stage 3 CAI and I like the results. My next thing is a 4# pulley and some type of programmer, probibly the SCT2. I would do the FTVB with the 4x4 filter and pan. I was glad I did mine.

It seems the more I read the more people mention to upgrade the valve body. I think to be on the safe side I will do that along with a fluid exchange and a new pan. Ive been hearing alot of this FTVB, im assuming this is the Factory Tech Valve Body upgrade? Since you have the FTVB...may I ask if you recommend this for a daily driver? I remember a few years back a friend of mine did something like this and every time it changed gears the rear tires would chirp. Is it that aggressive? or is it moderate where I can use my truck to do some towing and not have any issues?

Thanks for the reply.

Chirp ??? I can leave about 50 ft of rubber between gears
Dont let anyone tell you differant, YES it's that aggressive.

HOWEVER you not only want it, YOU NEED IT, and although at first you might say oh no WTF did I do, the shifts will settle down and in no time you learn to drive around it very easily, so much so that you wont even know it's there most of the times. I drive my truck all year round and every day if it's not snowing or raining. It's a great Mod and yes you want it
Very easy to do too, I have a old "How To" on it HERE

(I should point out in my case having over 20lbs of Boost and @550 RWHP as a street tune does play a part in the 50 ft smokeys between shifts)

Everyone has a differant list and order in which they want to mod their vehicle. Me I dont care bout nothing cept having a Street BEAST, and ocassionally making some passes down the 1320, so performance is me thing. Upper pulleys are great, but you might want to consider a Lower first, then maybe add the Upper later, it's great for being able to add and subtract Boost quickly giving you choices and tuning cababilty based on Temp's, Fuel, Conditions, Tune, Seasons, etc....
4Lb Lower, Filter, and an XCal2 would be an awesome Combo
