Brake Pad Clip question

All,

On the way home last night, I heard a clicking from my passenger side wheel area. I stopped and had a look.

There is what I can only describe as a stainless steel clip in the top of the caliper/bracket that goes over/around the ears on the brake pads.

The clip had slid out and was contacting the inside of the wheel!

Is there something that is supposed to keep this clip thing from sliding out like that? I took apart the caliper and replaced the clip to what I believe is the proper place, but I wanted to make sure something didn't break that was supposed to keep it in place.

Anyone know what the purpose of that clip is?

Thanks

Dude, my two front ones are doing the same thing! One of them ate into my rim. I took the wheels off a week ago and banged them back in, and bent the little tabs in the rear to hold them in. One of them is still ok, but the other is coming out again!

Let me know if you find a fix - I'm tired of taking a hammer and screwdriver to punch it back into place. Apparently the tabs have broken off that one that keeps backing out.

Every time you replace the pads you are suppoesed to replace the clips.
Depending on which manufacturer in China does them results is a wide
range of quality.

Think I could swing that as a warrantable item? I'm real close to the 36K mark, but still under it.

Where do we get just the clips? Or are they only part of a pad kit?

Brake Clip

Had the same problem eat into the back of the right front rim. Ford replaced the rim and the clip under warranty.

I have the same problem with one of mine... It tore up one of my pro star xps. Nothing a hammer can't fix.
