Post Need Some Help

Let me start by giving you a little history, I have a 2000 L that I picked up on 4-5-00. It now has 1675 miles on it. At about 600 miles I started to notice a slight knock on start up and it would quiet down after the truck warmed up, but never went away. I went to the original dealership that I purchased it from and they said they couldn't here it. The second time I went they heard it , but said it was "normal valvetrain noise", Not satisfied with that answer I went to another dealer and they heard the knock. The truck has been there for two days now, and they have been talking to Ford about it. Now I have talked to a couple techs at this dealership and they said it sounded like a piston knock or slap. They just called me and said the truck was ready and this is what they told me about the knock. They said they talked to Ford's Lightning motor Guru and he said the knock was "NORMAL". They are going to give me a 800 number to call this guy so he can explain it to me.. There was another 2000 L there at the dealership and I had them start it for me and there was no knock on that one, so how could this be normal. Everyone at the dealership hears it, and Ford is telling them it's normal. Is Ford just blowing smoke up my a** or what. I'm really not sure what to do now, so any input would be appreciated. Thanks Robert

Robert,

I too have a '00 L with about 1000 miles. I have also heard a knock, especially while the truck idles. I just dismissed it because the truck runs so strong and smooth.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Don't forget, we have a nice long warrantee, .......so enjoy!!

Just a FYI, supercharged forged piston motors run more piston to wall clearence typicaly than a NA hyperutectic (sp?) piston motor. This will cause more noise when cold. Also, NEVER EVER beat on a cold motor like this. The extra cold clearence will hurt the skirts of the pistons if you push it hard. Then you'll have that full time knock that gets people a new motor. One last thing, the extra clearence (within reason) also helps you go faster. Have fun
