Post Hey everyone - new to board.

Well, I finally joined you folkes. For 2 months have read the Lightning group and feel
like you are all warm family to me. Hope that I can add to this group. All of you seem clearly bright and really care for each other. Just as a short note I have had Ford mustangs, cobras, and hot f-150's for my most of my life. I got my 2000 white Bolt a few months ago and would appreciate your input.
In 2700 miles she has been getting 12 miles per gallon (mostly 7 mile trips etc)and on and extended trip ; (240 miles at 75-80 mph with ac on)14 mpg. This seems low; even for
a BEAST such as these. What kind of mileage
have you all been getting ?
Secondly, the Bolt started the "possible" piston slap at 300 miles. I'm watching this very carefully...any thoughts ?
BTW, any Lightning people around the Athens
Georgia area ??
Thanks for any comments you may have.
Tony

Moon - Welcome to the group.

You will find that we don't talk about gas mileage too much around here. If you are getting any better mileage, you aint driving it hard enough . Enjoy the ride and don't even bother to figure mileage.

The best mileage I ever got on my new L was 15 mpg. This was highway, windows up, and no a/c. So 14 mpg doesn't sound too bad.

When Family and friends ask me about milage my reply is if I wanted gas milage I would have gotten a Geo Metro or Focus. But to let you know 12 is a little low if you are driving away from the lights, and you let even the Hundi(spelling) beat you. Don't stop at lights, time them so you don't have to put your foot on the gas, but who in the hell wants to drive a L that way.

Hey G/Moon:

I'm from Kennesaw, just north of Marietta and 15 miles north of Atlanta.

Mileage is about par for the course, mine is very close to yours after 8K miles.

Personal opinion only, but you may wish to wait on the so called "piston slap". These beasts generate a lot of strange noises, and I did a lot of posting a year ago about that one as well as a lot of others. I complained about burning rubber smell from the S/C belts, for example, and while I still get that from time to time, the belts have never failed and the truck gets stronger all the time. In any case, you have a lot of warranty left before you have to worry about your tech swapping out your engine.

If in the Atlanta area, drop me an e-mail before you come and we can get together.

Regards,
Bill Murray

HI
Welcome to the board. Your mileage does seem slightly low...BUT...at least you don't have the problem I do....I may as well NOT HAVE A GAS GAUGE hehe It only registers half the time and when it does half of that time it is wrong hehe But if I acquire nothing more serious in the way of trouble I'll be happy.

Georgia_Moon, I have been getting about 11.5 mpg per tank +/- .5 since new. I now have 3,500 miles on L. Thats city hiway combined, mostly hiway. I don't know why my mileage is so predictable, always bad. But it does seem as though the L needs to be opened up regularly, it just wants to go by motorcyles fast cars whatever. Does yours do this too?

Thanks for the replies Old Kid,Tom G,Super Chicken.

I'm a little paranoid after going through
a horrible experience with a 1999 black
police Crown Vic.(only 4000 miles on it). The dealer and ford eventually forced me to seek legal action since the car was a LEMON and could not be fixed after "5" factory repairs. I used to have "blue oval" blood running in my veins until I found out how individuals are treated by dealerships when you run into
such very serious problems. Driving the new
Bolt was a start in bringing me back into the
fold.

Hey Bill Murray, would be nice to meet you.
Kennesaw is about 1.5 hours away from athens.
I'll certainly keep you in mind.

Thanks for the reply Whitelightningsvtgirl and REDHOTL.
If you guys and girls are interested I'll
post some of my tricks in detailing. I do not
use wax or polish and even at mustang car shows the judges would not believe that my
rods never were waxed.

Alright, tell us the tricks!

Most of the members here are firm believers in Zaino products. It would be interesting to see your methods for detailing.

Here is a non-detailing "trick" that works on all Fords since 92.
1)First your engine and drivetrain must be in good condition.
2)since most engines store the last 10-30
run cycles in the computer (and this data can
be corrupted just as in regular computers) JUST remove the "NEGATIVE" battery terminal for 15 to 30 minutes (DONT LET THIS CONTACT ANY ELECTRICALLY HOT SURFACES !)When done reconnect the negative; Let the engine idle
for 2 minutes to "relearn" itself.
Then RUN IT like you stole it. Chances are
you will see it run a little better and cleaner.
Also you may have to reprogram your "saved"
radio stations.
