You made a very good response to another post

"Anyway, you'll notice a big difference in shift quality over what you have now, even though I'm sure the chip improved the shift over the stock programming. The shifts in my truck are very crisp and firm, but you only really feel this under load. At part-throttle
acceleration, you will _know_ its there when it shifts, but it is not obnoxious or anything like that. But, full throttle the TransGo kit made a huge difference...more than the chip did over the stock shift quality.
I would recommend this to any L owner, and its very simple to do if you don't mind getting some trans fluid on your arms."

I am not an expert in racing, etc, etc. So my knowledge is very limited in the area. BUT my L is amazing to me and I keep adding mods to go FAAAAASTER. Who knows why??? May be this is something nature has instilled within an L buyer.
My question to you is: What is a shift kit?? How does it work??? It sounds like it shifts harder than the chip. With a chip and the kit, is there a strain on the trans??
If this is something that will make my L faster and not harm the trans, I want it.
I guess there was more than one question.

Hey Fordsales...sorry its taken me all day to get to the board.
JIGAWATT is really the guy to talk to b/c he is a transmission guru (I mean, he does this for a living, I believe). He's the one who convinced me that running a shift kit with the chip would not hurt the trans at all. He has one of Sal's chips and a TransGo shift kit in his '99L.
Anyway, the shift kit from TransGo consists of just a few springs and a plate that you drill some holes in. Everything you modify is in the Accumulator valve body which is the smallest of the valve bodies in the trans. What you're doing by installing what amounts to more springs in each shift accumulator is just an effort to make the shifts _quicker_. More spring pressure, the quicker the shift. The springs in the kit definitely have more pressure than the stockers. The plate actually allows more fluid to enter each shift accumulator. More fluid means more pressure, means harder shift.
JIGAWATT told me that without going into the main valve body or into the trans to adjust some other things that control line pressure, that adding just a chip and shift kit would not give TOO much pressure to cause harm to the trans.
Realize that whenever you have a trans "slipping" into gear (especially at full throttle/high load) you're causing wear to occur on the clutches and bands. Quicker shifts are always better. Harder can be detrimental, but this thing isn't so hard that the trans should be hurt.
Anyway, knowing what I know now, I'd say it does shift harder and quicker by itself than the chip does by itself. But put 1 and 1 together and it makes for a really good combination.
Hope this helps some.

I was gonna post this question but it kinda fits here. What is the difference between the Level-10 shift kit, and the TransGo? From what I can tell, they are very simular kits. Is one beter than the other? I will be purchasing one of them, but not sure which one. Thanks.
I have no idea on the difference in the shift kits...this is a good question for JIGAWATT.

Just some info.
I ordered a Precision Industries torque converter and with it comes the TransGo kit to modify the valve body. It is a 10.5 inch converter with a 2600 stall speed. Correct me if I am wrong but Level 10 is a Precision Industries dealer.
Needed to add this there is no web address for Precision Industries but this is their phone # 800-649-7866 or 901-466-0267

BABOLT:
You bought a PINK converter. Isn't that pretty
Seriously, I have not used their product so I can not say anything good or bad.
Please let us know what you think of it. I bet it set you back about $800
Caka: I have not used the Level 10 stuff, so I can't say what the difference is for sure.

The link does not work. The retail price was $795.00. I paid $695.00. The guy who ordered it for me uses them on all the cars that come out of his shop, at least the automatics. So based on his say so I went with it. Just need to drop the trans now.
