I've been told several times at non Ford events that when the guys see the big red grill in their rear window, it scares the ****** out of them. Most of the track guys aren't used to seeing trucks on the track and when all they see in their rear view mirror is that big front end, it may as well be a tractor trailer and some panic and forget how to drive. I was at a BMW event where 3 guys were waving me by and I wasn't even close to them. If you can't beat them, intimidate them!

With the big nostrils on Cliff's hood, I'm surprised that the Porshe didn't drive right off the track...

You gonna come play at Putnam???
The SVT Contour's suspension is pretty much dialed in however I won't be in town on the 10th and the 11th. What I lost in torque was made up in cornering ability (and doubling my gas mileage).

I'm up for some apexing this summer. Been a long time since I've been on a road course and could use some a little instructional refresher.

Drop me a note when you plan on being at Putman.

Cliff,

You need to take the idiot from Top Gear for a ride in that "Farm Truck" of yours !!!

Maybe he wont call the Lightning "Rubbish" then.

I can't believe his review of our trucks when there are those out there like you who know what these things are capable of doing.

Killer Videos Sir !!!

Let some of us in Florida know next time you come to Sebring...I live about 1.5 Hours from there in Tampa and would definately like to see that thing in person!!

P.S. Not to hijack this but here's the link to the Top Gear review of the L, What a JackA$$ this guy is...

Art-Man,

Same weekend ar Sebring every year ... April 21st weekend.

Mountaineer Madness now has the same date for next year also.
May 5th or whatever date that Saturday falls on.

We had about 6 Lightnings at Sebring this year. A lot of nice people from
Florida. It really is amazing seeing what the stock Lightning's can do
on-track. The brakes are the biggest problem. Fix that and you can
burn 'em up with the Mootangs pretty well.

I would have liked to meet some guys from here for a brew, but the
weekend is REALLY full, so if they weren't participants, I didn't get
much gab time.

Bob,

Here's Jeff Lacina taking "Christine" for a spin ...

Info on the On-Track Events:

This weekend at Joliet ...
Autobahn Country Club

Putnam On-Track and AV8SS race

My Favorite ... Gingerman

All the info for SVTOA Events is here (They even have Dragstrip outings!) SVTOA

Interesting comment from Lacina at the end about the light rear end of a Lightning, and that's the same comment I hear about most people. Yet the weight distribution is exactly the same as the 03-04 Cobra.

Awsome vid Cliff. Is that with the new tires on? How much better did the truck feel if those are the new tires?

Thank you, you restored my hatred for the British. But on a serious note what the F$%# is he doing mudding with a Lightning. He deserves to be shot, at least we can all do it considering we "need a gun rack."

I think that it's the high CG and roll centers that makes the Lightning spooky.

At Willow springs, there is a hard braking downhill section just before a hard 90 turn. On the turn-it, it feels like the CG in the back is somewhere over the roofline. All kinds of squirrely.

No question about that. You can do many things to make these trucks handle quite well but the high CG has its limitations. I've driven all types of vehicles in all kinds of conditions including snow and ice but a Lightning on a wet track absolutely freaks me out.

Cliff-

That is an awesome video as usual!

A question regarding your suspension - what UCA's are you using to go along with your WC LCA'S? Are there any alignment/geometery issues using the stock uppers?

Thanks

+1 --- < grin > Useless as teats on a boar hog is apropos ... And just
the same, the Lightnings just break up the monotony of the topography.
I used to try in the rain, but now I just sit it out.

The stock uppers were fine with the WC lowers. But when the ball joint
went, I just upgraded to the DJM's. Now all seems fine.

Both Summit videos were on the RA1's. The Sebring Video is on Hoosiers.
