Question on Break in of new L
I was wondering what you guys would advise for the break in of my new L? Pretty much the first action it will see is a 200 mile road trip tomorrow night. Any certian speeds i should keep it at? At how many miles can i start to get on it some?
Thanks for any advice.

Hey Jason!
When I got mine the first day I put one hundred miles on it. In fact I had 99 miles on it and it just rolled over to 100 as I entered the gates at Milan Dragway. Made 20 some passes that night. Put a few miles on it and drive it hard just don't beat the snot out of it. If its built right you can't hurt.

Make sure there is nothing wrong with the machine out of the box before you start beating on it.
I avoided WOT runs to redline (as best I could
) for the first 500 miles. It is also commonly recommended that you not run at constant speeds for long periods of time, like on the freeway.
I would certainly not abuse it the first few hundred miles the way BABolt did. I wouldn't even think of putting 20 passes on a brand new motor unless I had built it myself and broken it in on a dyno.
Not to rag on him unnecessarily, but while BABolt's truck sure looked pretty, I recall that it was one of the slower Ls at the F150 Online meet at Milan last summer. He may have had some specific problem, but it was smoking on every pass and was running a couple of 10ths off.

BadDog - I've been whipped by BABolt many times. I've witnessed a 13.40 @ 103 pass through my windshield and he was just a small dot in the distance. I wish I had that "slower L"!
P.S. What you witnessed was the wonderful performance of the Superchip before they figured out how to make a Lightning run. For you guys that run good with a Superchip, thank BABolt for all the embarrassing development work he did just so guys like BadDog could whiz all over him! Bad dog! Bad dog! No doggie treat for you!

LOL.
Like I said, I am certainly not ragging BABolt. Just a little ribbing.
From the attention to detail I see in his truck, I imagine Bolt has things well sorted out this year. I just had to get a shot in, because that day is likely to be the ONLY time I ever run better than him.
You're right about the early chip. That day there were two Superchipped trucks out, and both were anemic for some reason. That is one of the big reasons I've waited to chip my L.
