drag racing related question

ok in my last thread i was telling everyone that i went from running 13.6 bone stock to now running 14.0-14.3 maybe sometimes when i get lucky i get a 13.6
this is with a k&n kit v-force exhaust and ftvb but i relized at the track on sunday that i am spinning horridly out of the hole and the run i did a 13.6 i only spun a chirp, i dont have a slip nearby right now so i cant compare, ill try to get them later.

but my question is this if i get some slicks (can get them new for free) and some traction bars will this help me out even though i am d@$n near stock? i plan on ordering a 2lb pully and possibly a chip (i have to call and talk to someone about the whole chip thing), but i plan on doing that this week.

some people told me that the traction bars arnt needed untill i start putting alot of power down but everything ive read on here says the complete opposit, i just thought i would ask before i do something i dont need to do

thanks,

chris

Yes, slicks will help your 60ft time alot. And traction bars on these trucks is almost needed! You ever get any wheel hop? Any bouncing in the rear end when your accelerating fast? That's BAD, and tration bars fight that.

Ya what my Brother said (Thumbs Up)

Chris do you know your 60ft for the 13.6 vs the 14.3, and the MPH???
That will tell a lot (not the ET)
and YES Slicks WILL absolutely improve your ET, but just to make sure you understand, "IF" you put slicks on it YOU MUST put bars on it, or drive shaft go bye bye ......

About your mods,
I love what you've done so far but you have to remember none of them are really ET givers. When you say K+N Kit, I dont know if your talking about a drop in filter, or a total aftermarket I removed the factory box and now have a big *** MF open filter ? If it's a drop in what can you gain, 5-6 HP ???

Exhaust Mods when stock are like sound systems, they sound ok (sometimes)
but add no performance. Yes they'll be a point someday when it's part of the big picture and you'll need it, but for now DO NOT expect any gains or advantages with it.

And as for the FTVB, prob the most important Mod made for a Lightning,
it lets your tranny shift correctly, slip less, (which means longer tranny life)
and WOO HOO it makes your L mo fun to drive

but it's not a ET giver either. SO your ET's are still pretty dam good my guess is your 60ft is way off. Get the slips and post them and I'm sure the answer is right there

Bottom line if you want ET, put a Filter Chip n Pulley on and say hello to the 12's

what you really need to do right now is just get some passes under your belt. get your ET down to consistently within a tenth or better on every back to back pass, then you know you're driving it right out of the hole. ON a well prepped track, stock pulleys, and decent F1s you *should* be able to almost stomp it out of the hole.... kind of a quick stab and then roll of the throttle.

i think slicks might actually slow you down at this point (stock), especially without traction bars. with slicks you have more rolling resistance the lower the pressure.

and try to work on your reaction time while you're at it. i hate to see fast vehicles and people who can't cut a reaction time for **** (Rob, I am not talking specifically about you here buddy ). that is a HUGE part of drag racing... so use it as an advantage in beating your opponent even if you're running test n tune.

Now that is exactly what I'm talking about
Look at two two slips and the two most important numbers

One Run is
2.02 60ft and 101.75 MPH

The other Run is
2.18 60ft and 98.95 MPH

HUGE DIFF in 60ft's right there, almost 2/10th's.
You know what they say, 1/10th off your 60ft = 2/10ths ET (more or less ?)
So for starters you have at least 3/10ths better ET grrnty'd right there in the 60ft. You take off 2/10th's there and you'll pick up @ 3/10ths on the ET. Hence making the 2 runs almost identicle ET if they both had the same 60ft. Now MPH is another thing, I do not know at this point which set of numbers goes with stock/stock, and which numbers go with stock/Exhaust/K&N/FTVB.
BUT I can tell you whichever one had the 98.95 MPH has less power than the set up that made the 101.75 MPH pass. If your running the same tires and gears you want to see more MPH as you Mod your truck, for instance you will need lets say 105/106 MPH to run the high 12's (7's - 9's)
Right now you need to GET THAT 60FT waaaaaaaaaaay down
and hence your ET will go waaaaaaaaaay down

I made 13 - 16 (1/4 mi) passes on my F-1's, all of them were 1.9 60ft except one 2.0 and one 1.8 (as said practice makes perfect) And hey dont listen to Sammy, he thinks he's Slick, You wait until your dam sure you see green before you even attempt to go, baw ha ha ha ha hehehehehe (ok that was a Joke)

I've made at least the same amount of passes on slicks. I think my worse ever 60ft was 1.79, most are 1.6's, on a good day a high 1.5. All your ET is in the 60ft but you DO NEED MPH to run the numbers.

And as Slick said consistantcy is everything, I may suck monkey *** at the light (an old drug injury, or maybe thats a new drug injury)
but I run within 1/10ths of each and every pass I make. AMOF I have ONLY ran a 11.8 or 11.9 since 2003.
(recently on a new set up 11.6 and 11.7 "SO FAR")

So basically it comes down to this, IT'S ALL IN THE 60FT
Put Slicks on and bam you should catch 1.7's / 1.8's right off the batt, that in itself will gain you HUGE ET, but as said you must run bars if running slicks.
Now that MPH thats another story.........
If your modded set up has a lower MPH than the stock stock, you def got an issue somewhere, and as mentioned by someone else, it's prob in the exhaust.

Don't forget a driveshaft loop with the slicks and bars. Tracks will require it.
