Truck starting problems...and acting weird

Hey everyone, need some help on this one.
I just came home from work, stopped by the mailboxes to check the mail. So I turned off the truck got the mail and got back in and tried starting it, and it didnt crank. I also heard a kinda winding almost grinding sound coming from all over the dash. From the glove box to the stereo to the tach...very weird.
At the same time all the lights started going crazy. The door panel lights, dome light, third brake light... and they were all very dim too. The truck has been running great too.
Any ideas??
I hope I can get this solved tonite because shes my Daily Driver and is sitting all by herself in the dark, in a not so good neighborhood. Thanks!!

That sounds like a dead battery. The grinding sound is probably the starter solenoid kicking back and forth. Try to get a jump and see if she fires and stays running. If it is a battery you must have a draw somewhere pulling the batt. down.

Thanks! I definetly thinks its the battery now too. I went back out and the lights were dimmer and by the time I stopped messing around with it there was no lights at all. A couple neighbors gave me a hand to push it out of the way. Now Im waiting for a buddy to come over and jump start her for me. Im hoping thats what it is.

Im having a buddy take me to have the battery checked tomorrow. We tried jumpstarting last night but I dont know if his 4cylinder saturn had enough juice to start it or if something else is wrong...
With the jumper cables hooked up I tried cranking it and all it did was dim the lights and never started, it sounded like it was resetting itself.
Completely dead battery???
Ill find out tomorrow.
