ported blower or differant blower

if you had to chose would you have the stock blower ported or buy a kb or whipple.what seems to be the horsepower differance between them.

I don't have either but i was thinking about the same question for awile. I would just step up to a kb or whipple or even a MP. It seems to me that people that get their blowers ported are having trouble with them, (not all but more then enough to have some concerns). Some loose tq. but most gain 20-30 hp. I would stay away from it cause every so often their is another post about their "ported" blower problems. But then again their are people that had 0 problems with their blower. i guess its a role of the dice.

I bought a KB, what you didn't mention is the cost difference, a port job is what 500.00 while a new blower starts at 1500.00 I think alot of guys do the port job based on cost. The above post is right theres seems to be a mix of happy and unhappy people and thats why I wouldn't even consider it, as least with a stock blower you have some chance of selling it once it's been modified there are far fewer people willing to risk it, as for HP a whipple or a KB make more than a MP, built block or not but it just really depends on what your looking for. Good luck, Todd

My KB made 432 at the tires with 9 pounds of boost. The answer is simple.

I made 460hp on my MP stock block. Now I have a built block and made 500+ on a break in tune. I love my MP, but a KB or whipple will out power it. But for a lot more money. I have heard mixed results of the ports. I have also heard of a lot of ports locking up. Haven't heard ONE problem with the MP. However, there seems to be some issues tuning the MP trucks. Jim at JDM knows the MP, and knows how to tune them for good power. Look at your long term goals with the truck. If you eventually plan on having a monster, go KB or Whipple. If you plan on keeping it tame, you may be happy with a port or MP. I am eventually going to spray my truck or look for a bigger blower....I feel with the built block I'm leaving a lot on the table.
