Question Upper pulley??

Ok "L" guru's. I'm currently running a 6# lower and an "aggressive street tune". What size upper pulley's should I run?? I want to see high 7's in an 1/8th on street tires. (My lower pulley is Metco if that matters at all)

Thanks,

I changed my upper to a 2.7 a saw "O" increase in boost. I was expecting to gain a little, but gained absolutely nothing. This was with a 6 lbs. lower as well.

You should be High 7s the way it is. I race on F1s, 1.84 60 ft times, 7.9s 1/8th. 14psi in 3rd.

LOL! It's definantly not the driver. I drive fairly well...not perfect...but fairly well. Consider your climate compared to mine. The two of you running high 7's are North compared to me. I live in Humid *** Alabama...and our track isn't that great .

You can go as small as 2.6 for the upper. Send me your e-mail address and I will send you a file that will help you decide.

try again... a 2.6 would require grinding the snount. my 2.7 required sanding. some youll be ok on a 2.7 other youll have to sand or maybe even grind a little. the machining of the snount is not helt to a tight enough tolorance

I used a 2.7 with no issues but a 2.6 will require slight grinding of the snout with a dremel. Not a big deal really.

SRT- What do you mean try again?

in the 2 years i worked for amazon racing we hand to grind 5 snounts on cobras and 2 on lightnings to make a 2.75 fit. the center line tolarance is not tight enough on the snount. in PERFECT conditions youll only have to grind a little to make a 2.6 fit. normaly its not the case at all

It may depend on the internal diameter of the pulley. I first used a JLP 2.7 and it went on without grinding. Do you think the grinding reduces the strength of the snout as it appears that some pulleys of the same OD require more grinding than others.

we tried billetflows RR and a few others they all would rub on some blowers... if you look at the snount youll see how badly they are casted...

Since you handled many pulleys, who do you think makes the best 2.6?

Have you heard of this guy. Been around for a long time and claims to have really good stuff.

The JLP pulleys are all aluminium and are junk. We got two bad ones. Aluminium should never be used as a press on type like this.

the aluminium pulley isnt the problem its usally the center boar DIA to blower shaft diffrence that is the problem. some of the shafts run a few .000's smaller then others and makes a huge diffrence with the press of the pulley.

im not 100% but i think metco makes johnnys pulleys... aaron and matt at metco make extreamly nice product and i wouldnt put it past them to have dead on center boars.

as for the SFPHQ... there press on pulleys SUCK!!!! they bent an amazon racing pulley puller. which was the strongest puller made.

if you want a nice ultra grip pulley call RR

this my be a little off topic but please help!
i have a 2000 lightningand i want to put pulley on but don't not how much boost is too mush for the stock motor.
When i have the truck tuned it will have mid pipes, cat back, and a brute force intake. Would a 6lb lower be too much? keep in mind that it is an everyday driver. Thanks

SRTthis something had to be wacky with that particular vehicle and that particular pulley. Terry's been making pulleys longer than any of these new companys popping up, amof he's the one that invented the Quick Change Upper Pulley set up (DUB "Dial Ur Boost"), many years ago. I dont know what exact pulley your taking about but I ran South Florida Pulley Headquarter Uppers and Lowers for over 3 years, amof I used a lot of his products and found each and everyone to be outstanding.

I've used his Dial_Ur_Boost Upper Pulley set up, his Puller Tool, 4 differant upper pulleys for the DUB (2 reg, 2 non slip), his T6 Aluminum Lower Crank Pulley, his 100MM Idler Pulleys, 3 of his Gatorback Belts, schitt I even bought Spark Plugs from him.

Either way as for what people should buy and where, there's a lot of choices out there just remember when it comes to UPPERS 99% of what you'll find is a direct rip off of his design so check um out good and make sure they're made as well. As for push on 2.7's I sold my Original Ported Eaton and the SFPH DUB after I installed the Mag, but needed to put an Eaton back on it once so I got another Ported Eaton and JLP's 2.7, as said it goes on WITH NO MODIFICATION

As for what to run, I like choices in boost so I use and recommend an adjustable upper and adjustable lower. (I have a key way Pulley on the Mag so I dont need it up top anymore, I can swap pulleys in a second), but I use a Metco Style Lower Ring and Hub and love it, I had 4 diff rings for it but sold a couple, this is the Ring I put on it yesterday

I also have a 9-3/4" Ring
As for what is recommended for a stock block, 6lbs should be max, with a really good tuner maybe a 6 lower / 2 upper combo.
