One of two things happening.
Over rev will shut down power, trucks shifts into second but feel like a regular 5.4. YUK!
other could be heat build up in the trans and boost shut down, again no power. YUK! again. Need to change shift point or rev limiter.

This same thing happened to me the other day. I was in it all the way and it shifted to 2nd and I lost mey boost. This is the second time this has happened to me leaving it in automatic. I already have a RA number and I'm sending it off to Superchips on Monday to try and get the shifts more firm. I'm going to see if they can move the "failsafe" to a bit higher rpm.

Post Strange superchip problem

Once in a while when my truck shifts into 2nd.The motor loses all power. It feels like a dog.It does accelerate but not very well. This is only since the install of the superchip. It also seems to happen only when you really rev it high and hit the rev limit before hitting second.?????Any comments?Even in drive(only the first wot)after start up,My truck shifts too late.I think the rev limit is set too close to the shift pont.I am not complaining. My truck feels so so strong since the chip.I am just wondering if this is the "fail safe mode" sal and others were reffering to.Like after burn outs at the track or something??

I have been noticing somthing simular. After starting from a stop or low speed, the run up to redline in first goes okay. When the engine reaches about 4k in 2nd gear it noses over. It keeps accelerating but at a much reduced rate. Boost gauge stays pegged.

I've never experienced what you described with your Superchip. In all my WOT experiences (and there have been hundreds) I have only experienced two suspect shifts and both of them were at the track. The first was a 1st/2nd shift that "stumbled" but after about two seconds picked up an resumed warp speed. The second time was a 2nd/3rd that kind of "stumbled" again and then picked up the normal acceleration rate to the line.

Both times I was under the clock and was able to compare times with "normal" shift sequence runs. Both runs were off about 1/10th of a second.

All this to say that you may very well have a terminal that is making intermitant contact and causing problems. I have found the Superchip to be very consistant in its operation. My chip was one of the first run chips and I am considering returning it to Mike for an update and maybe firming up the shifts a little.

Mike, please let me know if you think this would be worth it or not.

I had a similar issue with the thing feeling like it is dying at about 4k. I sent my chip back in with some 4k and up detonation. They sent me a new chip. No detonation, but they really seem to have pulled out some timing at about 4k and around 100 mph. It still pulls nicely, but you can really feel a difference.

I don't spend a lot of time at those speeds, and it still had enough go to beat down a turbocharged honda a few weeks ago, so no complaints. I'd rather lose a little at 100mph than grenade the engine.

Lightingquick,

I have the same problem, but mine only does it in the mornings. My first long flat run is only about 2 miles from my house. I go from a dead stop to about 110 almost every day ( when there's no other cars ). My piont is when I reach that light my thermostat has only been open for 30 seconds or so and the truck studders at about 4,200 rpm's.Now if I wait about five minutes in my driveway and let the truck warm up there then drive the 2 miles the truck runs at WOT with no studder. I don't know if this is a heat issue or not but it does help.

Oh I had my truck at Superchips Feb. 7th on their dyno and road tests and they could not eliminate the problem. But they did change my shift points and that fixed it exept as I stated above. I probably should not run the truck that hard until there is some heat in the fluids anyway.

Its only once in a while.I can live with it.There is no way my chip is going back.I dont want it to go back and come back slower.

I had the same loss of power problem after a 1-2 shift at the track this weekend. Thge truck ran fine until I put the PSP chip in. Then, after the 1-2 shift at WOT, I lost all power and the motor started pinging like crazy.

I only know that my problem only showed up with the chip. Has anyone determined the actual cause of this?

I think all the problems above can be explained with the failsafe mode. Look at it this way, failsafe is activated when a certain set of criteria are met. It could be that if the engine is at X temp, WOT, and Y RPM is reached, failsafe activates. When you are running stock shift points, the RPM criteria is not met, so you never noticed it before. This is probobly something in the coding of the program to detect a weak shift. Ever drive a vehicle where the trans sliped, and you had to ease up on the gas to get it to shift? I'm guessing the computer is interpreting the conditions as a weak shift, and easing up for you. There must be another RPM limit in the program hidden somewhere causing this. I know FWD Chryslers have a similar set up, but they go by the duration of the shift. If a shift takes too long to complete, the trans goes into limp mode locking the trans in second gear. Maybe Ford has something similar, with more power and higher RPM, a shift would take longer.

Thumbs down

I had the same thing after sitting at a light. Lost boost for a short while. I changed to a 180 thermostat and haven't had the same problem again.

Scottdog,

What is the normal temperature for the thermostat?
