I think he is asking if the 99 head unit will work in the 93 Lightning. I am not sure, but I do know it will be lots of fun taking out that thing.

when i bought my 2000 model I bought a factory CD player and had the dealer installed this. Now I have the original head unit I am selling. One of the ppl interested in buying this head unit wants to know if it will work in a 93 model L.

the actual connections and controls will work. however, i don't think the radio will fit. the old radio was a din, whereas ours is a din and a half. i don't remember what genI had, so this is just a guessestimate.

Say Mister,

Did you also happen to order the 6 disk cd changer? If so, how does it work together with the in dash cd player?. I heard ford will not let you order the 6 disk cd changer with the in dash cd player. I still don't know if it will work.

Gen 1 L's had a DIN size radio, Gen 2 is nearly double size. No way will it fit. I don't mind my OEM radio in my 2000 L, however it has a cheapo appearance I think. Why are people removing the oem radio? Do you not think a 6 disc changer is good enough?

Eaton - I'm taking mine out for 2 reasons. 1) Even a cheap ($250 - 300) after market radio with RCA connections sounds better when you run it through an amp than the OEM system does. Using RCA jacks allows you to pass an unamplified signal to the amp which results in less noise.
2) It's just something I always do. Don't ask me why but truck just doesn't seem like it's mine until I rip out the stock sound system.

I actually took the cd changer out because I wanted the single disc in dash cd player. Im always changing discs and that changer was just plain inconvenient

Tundra-
I love this setup and have had no trouble with it at all.

Well first off, it wasnt an after market head unit but an actual Ford OEM CD player in the dash like they use in other F-150s. The reason I did this is because I have over 100 CDs and like to switch to different songs all the time. What I am doing now is burning all my fav songs on to CDs to leave these main 6 in the changer and then the others that may only have one song on the CD I can just play in the dash unit.
This is also a cheaper way for me to go because I am not ready just yet to switch out my whole system as have other owners.

So Mister SVT,

You are saying that the in-dash factory CD Head Unit controls the 6 CD changer as well?

If it does, I know what my next purchase is!!!!

Yeah there is a button on the left side of the display that says CD. Push it once to do the in dash CD and twice to do the CD changer. Have had it in since day one with no troubles what so ever

Brad

PS... a part number would be great!

* 99.5 Black Lightning
* Personal Best ¼ Mile 13.82 @ 99.98 Mph
* Ohio Plate SVT2GO
* Sal’s Chip and Filter
* Interceptor Trans
* All three Factory options for 99
* Factory CD Changer
* Class 3 Towing Hitch
* Factory Tonneau Cover
* 8" Bazooka Tubs
* Kenwood 80 watt *2 amp
* Viper 550 Alarm w/ remote start
* 97 F-150 Extended Cab 4.2L V-6 daily driver

Injection is nice, but I'd rather be blown. 99 Lightning, the best of both worlds!
