Thumbs down Star washer?

I have the cam bolt kit, but I can't have it installed until my dip***** dealer fixes the sliding bolt problem. I showed the service manager pics of the problem, and he took notes and said he would call SVT, but so far has failed to do so. I will make another trip down there tomorrow, but if I can't get some action I'm thinking of just getting a damned washer and having my front end guy put it in when he installs the cam bolts. My question is preposterously simple- what size star washer should I buy?

5/8" I.D. Make sure that ALL frame wax is cleaned from the contact area, front and rear, shoot some black paint on it when done. I hear that Ford may have the frame wax available in a spray can for spot use. So far it seems to be doing ok on my truck.

I'm assuming the washer is for the front-end clunk problem. Are there step-by-step instructions with pics anywhere? I'd like to have my dealer fix it but It would only work if I could show them an exact fix...

on an unrelated note, I've made it through my first round of chemo and feel optimistic I'm going to beat this thing. of course, the medical bills are coming straight out of the truck fund, so no new toys for awhile, but at least I was well enough to drive this weekend. Its quite a picker-upper to get into the beast and go for a ride. An older bimmer tried to race me yesterday. Bad move. I was pulling him hard and he was just a speck in the rear view mirror at 140 but I have to give him points for persistence ... he hung in there still trying up until 120. LOL

Nathan, there are two front end noises. The "clunk" is the steering stop at full lock, and although it can be reduced by lubing it will always be there. The "skreek" is the bolt sliding in the lower control arm attachment hole. Someone posted some great pics of this problem elsewhere on the board, but I don't think you need to show your dealer pictures- hell's bells, he should be able to just look behind the oil filter at the control arm and it should be evident. If he still has questions get him to call SVT, they are aware of the problem and will verify the fix.
Happy to hear you're doing better, and I'm pulling like hell for you to beat this thing.

I had the star-washer fix done on my L and have since experienced the "clunk". In fact I had never experienced the clunk until I got the washer.

Truthfully, I had never turned at or near full lock so that I wouldn't find clunk, but, hey, every once in a while you are forced and sure enough...POINK!.

Those washers aren't as easy to find as I imagined. Stopped by dealer's parts department, no dice. OK, next stop Home Depot, still no luck, but they steered me to Industrial Bolt in Ventura who had them. But while I was at the dealer's I noticed a new red L. sitting there with the sticker still on it. Almost as pretty as my silver one, except I'm afraid it might be a cop magnet. Salesman told me that it had been ordered by Borla as a development mule, but then they changed their minds. So, if anyone in this area is interested in buying a new red L. for MSRP go to Barber Ford in Ventura. I'll bet they might even be willing to deal since sales of these puppies have apparently slowed since the gas crunch.

Nathan: Here's some great photos of what to look for courtesy of clonetek.

You said the chemo is coming out of the mods fund? Don't you have medical insurance?

The "clunk" is normal, it is not something to worry about. The "skreeek" is something to worry about, but it sounds like you have already taken care of it, WHAT04.
