Question Attn Airraid owners (and all)

Gots a question for Airraid owners.

What is the diameter of the inlet tube where the filter connects?

I'm getting antsy about a filer kit and want to purchase an Airraid system BUT install a Powerstack filter. I found a source for the filter and want to be sure to get the right sIzE. Anybody else done this?

(Sidebar to Sal)I know you cant respond to this but I'm ready to be "chipped"

Thanks all.

The Airaid w/K&N seems fine to me. I like the look of the powerstack cone filter. It might do something, but I'm not sure if it is worth spending the extra money on a second element. The Airaid is a nice product, I was one of the first with it and I had a hood clearance problem. Skydive69(Sandy) got his a week before mine and had no problem with fit at all. Some people on the board are loyal to Sal and will swear its the best stuff going. I really don't think it makes a bit of difference. If you jump and make a judgement on a specialty product because either yourself or someone else has an issue with it,(slaming or moveing to another product) you shouldn't own a Lightning. How many engines, trans, intercooler, control arm bolts, fog lightsect, ect, ect have we read about. Everyone is just trying to figure this thing out.(rant over) PS there are many that have no problems with their superchip

Blue,

I agree with your rant. I am in NO way slamming any other product or person. I have no personal issues for I have no basis for judgement. Until I speak to vendor(s)and weigh what they have to say regarding my questions, all have a clean slate with me.

I would like very much to buy Sal's filter kit yet I like the "shielding" the Airraid offers. They seem very comparible. I'm willing ot spend the extra $50 bucks and be a guinea... Sal is obviously super busy (good thing for him, not for others). His chip setup looks like the way for me to go yet I am not ruling out Superchips either.

I read this board for tips, advice, "kills," guideance, and moreover CONSTRUCTIVE CONTENT. Henceforth, I filter out alot of the negative comments regarding bashing of individuals or their products. Just because someone cant get answers in a "timely manner" or doesn't get a glossy lipstick print left on their on their a$$ when they demand it get kissed, that does not negate whining and buying someone elses products. If you want the product, buy it or wait, if they are rude (usually self inflicted) and you cant wait, dont buy it or wait and dont bitch. This is lack of patience on their, not mine. (rant over)

I take a great amount of pride in owning a Lightning (even when I write the check.)

Speedin Bob - I just put the Airaid kit in tonight. I've used K&N filters in the past with good results. Can you give me your thoughts on why a Powerstack filter would be better?

Blueblood - I didnt' have the clearence problems you mentioned with my install. I don't know if they've changed anything but it bolted right up.

Speedin Bob

I just noticed your post regarding the filter change.

I have also been considering the same with my Airaid filter.

Did you finally make the change? If so was it worth the $$$$ to purchase the Power stack filter, and did the Power Stack fit OK?

Darryl from Autophysics.com just got back to me regarding a cone filter that will replace the Airaid. This is what he said...
_________________________

"I do have powerstacks of that size (3.5x9), but the diameter may be a problem.

My filters are 6" wide at the widest part of the base, and taper down to
5.25". I think that some of the air raid canister systems use a very small
canister and the powerstack will not fit in it.

Do you know if the diameter is not too large?"

Does anyone know for sure if a Power Stack Filter will work on the Airaid and which one? Autophysics doesn't seem to know.

I just took my filter out an measured it. The filter is 10 3/4 long overall, 9" filter element. larges diameter is 6" down to 4 11/16". there is plenty of room for that element in the box. This is a new setup for Lightning only. Chances are they aren't aware it.
Let me know the results!
Tom
I hope Mad believes my measurements

Thanks for the measurements.

I sent them off to Autosport to see what they have that would fit.

ALSO, I asked to see if they would give us a group discount.

I'll reply when I get a note back from Autosport.

Attn: Airaid owners: I really liked the red and silver SVT Lightning 5.4 metal tag that was on the top of the stock airbox, so I decided to take it off with a razor blade. It has goo on the back that resticks, so I put it on the front of my Airaid box along with some clear silicone, and it looks great.
