HI!... Well after 4 weeks of waiting my new COMETIC head gaskets came in today, both of them........................ both right hand sides!

Anyway I noticed that these are different than my old COMETIC head gaskets from last year. My old ones have a perfectly round FIRE RING but the new ones have a somewhat round FIRE RING but at the top on both the R/H and L/H sides of the FIRE RING the ring actually steps out and back in again. They are like this on both pairs. It doesn't interfere with anything, but I was wondering if COMETIC changed their head gaskets and what is the purpose of this modified FIRE RING? Sorry I have no pics, I got into a fight with my digital camera and it LOST bigtime!!!!!! LOL!

Can't help ya Neal, I use Ford gaskets on every motor.

 

FWIW is used the 03 cobra gaskets. No problems and cooling issues resolved for cylinder 4,8. Perfect for gobs of boost as well.

 

HI!... Well I talked to BRANDON over at COMETIC today. Apparently these FIRE RING dimples are called "EYEBROWS" and have been added to all the modular head gaskets they makes. They are to make room for certain sanctioning bodies that allow huge after market valves to be run. They basically make room for the valve, like a valve relief. Cometic was making two different styles of modular head gaskets and decided to just incorporate everything into one head gasket instead. Kind of a universal gasket.
