Post To drop....or not to drop... that is the question.

I have to admit...I'm in love....I'm in love with the way asdeman's lightning looks. I have been thinking real hard about dropping it the same, with the 3/4 belltech. I know I want to, only qualm is, how does it handle? Better? Worse? what about ground clearance, such as speed bumps etc? For the price I think this is the best eye catching mod out there. Maybe someone that has lowered theres the same, can help a poor kid out

I see that you have dropped yours 2." where did you get the shackles? On the web?

I have been thinking about the drop and now would like to know where to pick-up the parts.

I purchased the shackles from a local tire store, that does lifts and lowering (Les Schwab) The drop almost perfectly leveled the truck out, but it has got to go lower. I know that if you pick up a truckin magazine they sell the shackles through aim and other advertisers. If you do a search on it you should be able to find all of the part numbers and phone numbers to order them.

I have been thinking about the same thing.

I've read here in this forum that someone did this and raved about the handling. I also think this same guy is running Pantazas(sp) 295-35-18.

I also noticed yesterday that at least on my truck the front air dam only clears a sidewalk by about 1.5 inches. This is a problem for me because for almost a year now of driving I still cannot judge the distance of my air dam to an object, I'm usually a 1-foot farther back then I think! So to compensate for this (sidewalks) I just inch in until the front tires touch.

I can just hear the fiberglass crunching if I lowered it.

Also how do you keep the front tires from rubbing against the fender wells if you lower it?

I can see myself having the same problem. I wonder what them metal "curb feelers" would look like on a Lightning?

persoanly i think a slammed Lightning looks awesome and i would do it myself if it werent for curbs.I myself have hit one when i tried to pull up to it, before i realized there was a dip right before it...scratched the underside of the front facia.Mom and my sister have also scratched the front up,Mom decided to get hung up on a large steel rod and sis hit a curb.So its off to the body shop i go....again.Im afraid that if i had it lowerd that thing would be so messed up.SO i opted for the 2"drop in the rear....

I just lowered mine 2.5 front and 3.25 rear and I love it. I dont know about helping handling, but it sure doesnt hurt. I went with modified A-arms in front and hanger/shackles with airbags in the rear. The ride quality is like factory. Floyd91 do you ever get to Woodburn?

Guys,
I too was contemplating lowering my L,but after scratching the h#ll out the underside of the front facia about 3 weeks ago(I took the advice of fellow board members and sanded and painted it myself, and it looks like new)I decided that for where I live and the roads I travel it just wouldn't be practical.Maybe I should move? Oh well.

I think I have to lower it. It's just not getting the looks it used to. I need attention Oh well looks like I will be purchasing the 3/4 belltech. Can't wait. And with a Superchip on the way, it's almost like christmas. Rubbing I would see as a problem. I would like to hear from asdeman on this, But a different offset would help that. Curb feelers, If you do. I will have to drive up there and put the poor thing out of its misery.

2nd L I will be hitting woodburn a lot this summer. I'm waiting until the weather looks good, and I can drive a clean truck up there.... Any one else tired of the rain??
