Post Remove Spare Tire?

Just wondering if it is beneficial to remove the spare tire and jack while at the track. The tire and jack combined probably weigh a good 40-50 lbs. However, I am curious if having that extra tire weight in the rear end helps the truck launch better.

Also try the tailgate, and how about the hitch, and while your at it I've seen the front seat out also! (no names mentioned) You have to do what you have to do!

We have tried taking off the snuglid, and the tail gate, and drop the spair tire, and all it did was leave us with worse traction.

Just my two cents....

Don't take off the snug lid, it lowers the CD and will actually help your top speed and fuel economy and I would think is as good if not better than losing the tailgate in th 1/4 mile.

First thing I did was to remove the tow bar and the spare tire & tire lowering mechanism. Not so good for launches I'll admit, but quicker once you're rolling, i.e. freeway work. Ideally the next change is to find a clean way to relocate the battery to the area where the spare tire was; this, combined with the installation of a hard tonneau will restore some weight to the back to improve launches, but the truck will also still be quicker in rolling events because of the removal of the other stuff.

On the issue of battery relocation there are a lot of nice boxes out there, but nothing so far like a mounting kit for underbed located batteries. Looks like I may have to invent one.
